Further to what Exiled has written re: trim levels: There is also a trim level of "VX", which in my understanding is a very high level of equipment. My KZJ-70 carries the VX label and I am quite certain that many of the units that went into the UK are so-designated. I seem to recall they never got the "poverty packs" but seemed to only get highly-appointed units.

Not to put anybody down, but before this error is perpetuated, JDM does not stand for Japan Designated Market . It stands for Japan Domestic Market.

Do a Google search on "Japan Designated Market" (include the quote marks so you search for the exact string) and you get zero hits.

Do a Google on "Japan Domestic Market" and you get 900+ hits...

Sorry guys - My name is on it!

I'm new to this board, but I'm not new to TLCs or off-road. Had a '75 FJ40 for 6? years in the eighties, 31" Mud T/A's - double shocked, ran a Chevy six for 3 years after the F engine died. Traded it off due to kids, and the pain of car seats in a J40. Before that I had a rotten '74 Bronco, and after a RamClunker and an XJ :whoops: - still have an '85 SR5 X-Cab/22R that will be heading onto the block once the 'Cruiser is here.

Been looking into JDM 'Cruisers for the past few years, and it was time to update the XJ - Only thing on the CDN market that appeals to me at all are the 4 door Tacomas and the Xterras (Jeez, I don't want a Datsun!!!!) - And I would never go off-road in a "new" vehicle.

I have mixed feelings about the automatic in the J7 - and time will tell if the 1HZ needs a little "boost". Lockers would have been nice, but I'm not into extreme off-roading, so it is really more "wishfull thinking". The lights and other trinkets will get stripped off pretty quick, and look for new bumpers and tires soon.

BTW, I'm located in south central BC / North Okanagan.

I have to be honest, not only do I feel that JDM, Australasian and European vehicles are superior to their North American varieties, I find the NA market so appalling I may continue to buy JDM just to spite them.

If you ever watch the TV program "Fifth Gear", you'll see all the slick cars and SUV's in Europe, almost all of them with a high-efficiency diesel option. Yet GM and Ford continue to supply us with the worst crap imaginable :

And for you econo box comparison, you forgot to mention that in 5 years, the 'Yota will be worth 10K easy, and the Chebby will be difficult to sell for 8K.

I noticed from the pics of you incoming rig that we share the same style wheels. They're really catchy, I think some of the best Toyota put on the Landcruisers.
