Yeah the bummer is the 70 series is STILL a world vehicle minus the US.

I get we never got the 70 series, but we did get all the other series 300 included with different options. Looks like Toyota is upping the safety reqs for the 70 series, it would then have to do all the nhtsa and dot/epa stuff and whatever else required.

Toyota, you won’t bring the new 70 series to
The US?

Yes, seeing all the active safety equipment it gets and an engine euro6 (actually 2, the 1GD and 1GR) I think it could be homologated in the EU. But I don't think Toyota will because they don't see a market big enough (and their communication axis here is on sport car for fun and hybrid for ecofriendly, not 4x4s).

For the US the big issue are the 2 mandatory crash tests from the NHTSA, that are very hard to comply with a vehicle not designed to succeed them.
(A few years ago I was working for a company that went through the pain of adapting an European small serie car to be homologated in the US, was a far more modern design than a 70 LC and was still a giant pain, cost was through the roof, and was a big waste of money).
To bring the 70 to the US they would most-likely need to update it to a whole new serie with a new frame and body... All of that to import a very basic truck to compete in market saturated of work truck / pickup that deliver the same service and are far more comfy.

I got that but that does not explain why the 80 series would be more a LC than the 100.
The 100 is a majestic Land Cruiser.

The Land Cruiser never was a vehicle for entertaining rock crawling. As the name suggest the target is to carry things or people far away over any terrain. And for that mission when carrying people an IFS is very well suited and offer a lot better road behavior/safety. Even allow to drive faster on pistes than a front axle.
Keep the rigid axle and leaves for the utilitarian versions that needs to be cheap and will often be overloaded.

We can agree to disagree on this one. Respectfully of course. I guess the exception would be the 105 series rather than the 100 but then again the 105 never came to the states.

To be honest rock crawling isn't even my cup of tea.

Anybody else getting serious 70-series vibes from the new Land Cruiser? How successful do you think it'll be? Do you like the turbo I4 hybrid power train?

It is better than the FT-4X. Thank goodness it didn't come out like that concept.

It does look like an AdBlue

Woo where did you find this screenshot?

So it would mean the JDM version has AdBlue but not the Australian version.
I would hardly believe they developed an AdBlue variant only for the Japanese market???? Could it be because there are other markets that will have it with AdBlue?

Damn, they really need to bring it back to Europe at this point! Can't imagine they did all of that just for a few sales in Japan, the dream is open!

Now, if a GDJ78 was available in Europe for a reasonable price, would I run to the dealer to buy one? Or keep looking for an older HZJ75 or FZJ75 more rugged? That's a hard one 🤔

They only showed GDJ76 in JDM spec... I really hope those kind of markets would also get the utilitarian versions because honestly there is not much point to the 76... Particularly if it's to get the same engine than the Prado. At the same price point GDJ76 vs GDJ250 I think I take the 250, it offers so much more and a homogeneous package, the 76 don't do anything the 250 can't... (not that I'm on the market for either)
78 and 79 at least they offer form factors and capability that no other truck offer (or even a 71).

wtf is adblue, def?

Hello,

It is essentially a urea solution. It is injected into the exhaust gases.

If I remember correctly, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen from urea turn nitrogen oxides back into nitrogen and water vapor, thus reducing emissions.

This detail makes me think that the diesel engine is running lean on fuel, which (again, if I remember correctly) increases combustion temperature and produces too much nitrogen oxides. I hope Toyota got the combustion temperature issue right. Otherwise, it is either the problem Volkswagen had in 2015 or an overheating engine.

Lean in a diesel reduces combustion temperature.

In a petrol/gasoline engine, lean increases the temperature.

Hello,

Thank you for the correction.

My mistake. Sorry.

If they are using AdBlue, there are nitrogen oxides concerns.

Anyway, I do hope they got the AdBlue and emissions thing right.

Hello,

The new 70 Series front looks a lot like the pre-2006 model. I like that.

The rear lights are probably a nod to the 40 Series, as well as the instrument panel.

I think it might be possible to swap the rear lights to the "usual" 70 Series position. At least the screws of those covers are in the same place as the rear lights.

Traction control. I like that. Put in good tires and you can go almost everywhere, no more modifications necessary.

Interesting. Is it a rear parabolic leaf spring?

It is a 2 leaves suspension for Japan only (comfortable version), standard 7 leaves for the World
