I'm looking to purchase a low mileage 1991 HJZ77, I know it's s 70 series but does that fall under the 75 or 78 heading. It has the 1HZ motor of that helps. Thanks for the info!

Does the designation of hzj77 make it a 75, 77,78 series. I'm trying to nail that down so I know she. It comes time for add on. Bumpers, suspension etc.

Members please qc me as appropriate:

70-series denotes all models in the line up.

77 denotes four door wagon in the "hd" trim.

78 denotes four door wagen in the Prado trim.

The 77 has longer leaf packs in the back and the rear bumper architecture is slightly different then 2-door variants (regardless of SWB or MWB). So suspension kits and rear bumpers are not compatible.

For the purpose of ordering model specific parts your best bet is to get items specific to the 77 (I.e rear bumper) or specific to the LWB models (I.e suspension).

78 series stuff will, by and large, not be compatible due to architectural differences. However, I know from experience the factory rear bumper from a 77 (Land Cruiser) is cross compatible with the 78 (Land Cruiser Prado). I don't know if aftermarket offerings are. Also I believe many of the cargo area interior panels are cross compatible.

In my experience Cruiser Outfitters has been spot on with parts ordering for me. I've only ever had one hiccup when I ordered a front axel rebuild and it came with a manual hub gasket. But in all fairness not many people have auto hubs as this part was/is relatively rare due to imports. They corrected the issue immediately.

I was wondering how long it would take the Troopy (aka school bus) guys to respond.

It makes it a 77 series with a 1HZ diesel engine. This is a heavy duty model but it will share its body parts with light duty LJ and KZJ 77 78 79 and HZJ76.
The difference between a HZJ76 and HZJ77 is the latter will have coil springs up front.
It will share the mechanical parts with all things beginning with HZJ7*

How can a 77 be the king when everyone I've seen is wrong had drive?
As the saying goes "if you can't drive RHD then perhaps you shouldn't drive LHD either." :)
