My driveway is starting to resemble that photo.....bought a 2024 4R....its next to the 40, HZJ77 a previous G5 4R and a 1 ton truck...wish I had kept my pickup with the 22R in it....

Tis the season to begin oil undercoating up here.....

Cant beat a reliable/mature manufacturing process at the end of a very long nearly unchanged decade plus of pumping out G5 4R's

People are pre-ordering G5 4R's up here and waiting........basically nothing to be found on dealer lots.

I'm sure the G6 will be nice but by the time I'm considering a G6 4R years down the road I hope they havent filled the vehicle with auto start stop (ASS) and a nagging onboard nanny that can neither be disabled or exorcised from the vehicle.

Progress/New doesnt always equal improvement and Toyota is going to have to earn my next/future purchase

89$k, my bad
Who quoted you that?

I wasn't aware pricing was out yet for the 4Runner. I can't imagine a $63k TrailHunter Tacoma ($64k for TRD Pro Tacoma) becomes a $89k TrailHunter 4Runner.

Comparing a 2023 Tacoma TRD Pro at $48k and a 2024 4Runner TRD Pro at $55k - assuming that the price structure stays roughly proportional, that'd MSRP a 2025 TRD Pro 4Runner at roughly $7-8k more than the Tacoma version (at $64k) so you'd have MSRP at $70-71k.

There's $18k you're adding in there and even I don't think Toyota is going to ask for that much more. It just doesn't make sense to me what you were allegedly quoted.

Perhaps you're asking a dealer that's willing to charge a ridiculous adjustment to the first couple idiots with more money than brains that just have to be the first ones to have it to boost their influencer cred, well then yeah, let that person pay the stupid tax.

/edit: My guesses seem to be inline with early predictions: Estimated prices for 2025 4Runner Hybrid trims - by KBB + Car and Driver - https://www.4runner6g.com/forum/threads/estimated-prices-for-2025-4runner-hybrid-trims-by-kbb-car-and-driver.1339/

Yeah mate, me adding 18k$ :)

Bay Area dealerships, I guess, just throw prices and see what sticks. As you rightly mentioned, some flat-brainers might and will pay those astronomical prices just to be the first owners to take their trucks to Costco parking lot - but for me that was enough to laugh may way out of that dealership with a refund.

Just sharing my experience, don’t kill the messenger and all that.

Same to you. Don't take the "you're" personal..you said it and that's all I have to go on since you didn't source your quote at all.

This would fix it though - sorry to imply anything.

Surprised this section is so quiet - no news or anything after the initial reveals?
It is not a surprise at all.

1) No news.
2) There are far more active Toyota 4Runner forums. ih8mud is primarily a Land Cruiser forum.

Tacoma is made in North America and doesn't have the chicken tax applied.
J250 platform, including this new 4Runner, are made in Japan, so 25% chicken tax applies, so I could see that $80k would be in line with that.

That said, I'd rather have the VIN beginning with a 'J', but I am not sure if I want to pay that kind of premium.

All that you said would apply to the 2023 Tacoma (built not in JP) and the 2024 4Runner (Built in JP). Nothing has changed and the 4Runner price isn't going to go to $80k because of the chicken tax. It'll increase for sure because why not (inflation) but it's not going to increase for the reason you stated.

4R has always been made in Japan

Price of a similarly equipped G6 4R isnt going to increase by something like 35% over the G5 4R

3rd Gen TRD Pro Tacoma was $50,700
4th gen TRD Pro Tacoma is $65,300 so almost 29% increase.
5th Gen TRD Pro 4Runner is $56,620 and the same percentage increase would put the 6th gen TRD Pro 4Runner at $72,924.
So not quite $80k.
For that money, I'd go Land Cruiser or GX550...

If you're going to muddy the water with taco prices how about we do as close to apples to apples instead of maximum new toys/features on the most expensive model

G3 2023 Taco SR 4WD Double Cab vs G4 2024 Taco SR 4WD Double Cab

G3 = $34,865 https://www.motortrend.com/cars/toyota/tacoma/2023/specs/?trimSlug=sr-4wd-double-cab

G4 = $36,900 https://www.motortrend.com/cars/toyota/tacoma/2024/specs/?trimSlug=sr-4wd-double-cab

Real world average buyer price increase old model to new is a modest $2,000

But now the 4Runner is BEEFIER than the Land Cruiser Prado. The tables have turned.

How do you figure? It's literally the same platform.
Same engine/hybrid system.
Same transmission.
Same front suspension and differential
Same rear suspension, axle, diff.
Same frame.

Seems to me that the primary difference between the 4Runner and the J250 is the 4Runner has a lower roof height, choice of Full time 4wd or part time 4wd, and you can option the 4Runner non-hybrid.

None of this suggests that the 6th gen 4Runner is any 'beefier' than the PRADO.

Did Toyota let you drive it?

I'd love to report that I got to spend time stretching it's legs off-road, I did not. This was on display as part of a media drive/camping event my team hosted for Toyota with our guests from many different off-road and automotive outlets. The 4Runner was a static display at the Toyota regional office and again at the Destination Outdoor event site in the mountains of Colorado, no driving videos or driving impressions just yet.

I (we) did get to spend a great deal of time in the (3) LC250 trims and the (3) Tacoma trims pictured as well as our 5th Gen 4Runner support vehicle. I'm excited to hear what our guests have to say about the days on the trail with them all.
