Bought these 2 40s for R&D purposes, but decided to make an extended cab truck with the two.

'86 2F, 4 speed and splitcase will be the power plant. Front 60 disc brake conversion with 60 power steering as well. 36" swampers on 80 wheels with spacers. FJ62 steering column and wheel. Still in the research phase on the brake booster.. FJ60 seats, thinking of making my own rear bench seat or storage console. 4" SUA lift with extended shackles. 100% desmog, including the oil cooler. Want this a s basic as I can get it. Stripped to the bare bones...

Paint TBD.. I'm thinking Caramel Pearl Bronze and Metallic flake midnight black.

Of course, I'll build all the armor. Front and rear bumpers and sliders with a bobbed roof rack. I plan on stretching the frame approx. 18-24" (for the extended cab portion) Cutting down the hard sides and fiberglass top, welding in the lift gate to the hard sides, stretch the rear wheel wells 6-8" as well and then center up the tire/wheels.

Lots to do on this project.

Got the 2F and trans split apart today. 2F on stand. Ordered some parts from Kurt @cruiseroutfit Will be removing the an old GM short block and the 3 speed from the parts rig this week. 3 on the tree and top plate are already sold to @jetranger. The 3 speed T/C will be available if anyone is interested and a few other parts as well.

Then stripping both 40s down to the frames. Then the games will begin.

That bench seat mostly whole?

Bummer, thanks!

Glad to see the parts arrived safe and sound. Thanks again!

Excited to see this build progress!

Got the '69 in the shop this afternoon. Front end is off, motor mount bolts are out. Need to document the 3 on tree removal for @jetranger . Remove drive shafts and transmission mounts.. Pull the GMC shortblock and start tearing the rest down.

Old GMC bolted right up to the Yota bellhousing without an adapter from what I can tell.

One of these days I'm going to have a stocker with a three on the tree. And, I'll be happy you are doing this writeup!!

1968 FJ40 "stock restoration".

:)

Motor and transmission pulled this morning. Not too bad, by myself. Been awhile since I pulled a motor. Will get the GMC motor split and scrapped and then break the T/C from the trans and get those out to anyone who needs the parts.. Trans will more than likely go scrap with the motor.

Ordered the extended shackles this morning. I will start stripping this 40 down to the frame next week and breaking down the 2F to send to the machine shop.

Yes... I dropped the motor and trans and drug it to where it sits now... I was hoping to sell the frame, but the PO welded so much crap underneath it... it will be headed to scrap... Works good for me on the 24" straight rails I need to extend the other frame.

It has been awhile since I was SCARED, by welds.... I've seen some nasty $h!T over the years.... But this fella takes the CAKE!!

If there is a part of the frame or mount area anyone needs let me know and I will chop it for them.

Was there Toyota or American transmission? If toyota you should keep it for R&D... For dual transmissions! You have the skills to pull it off.

Just got my 1 13/16" x 3/4" socket.. $8.76 with free shipping... Made in China.. I was for sure it would break into pieces trying to get the crank nut off...

Worked like a charm with my 1/2" Milwaukee 18V Impact.. I keep being impressed with this battery impact.. It has SOME NUTZ!
