i'm finally getting around to the lv. i bought the truck from jsaltlick and it was a righthand drive. i had wally from poor wally's landcruiser emporium convert it to lhd. i don't really know how to restore something back to stock, so i'll be changing a few things up. the stance will be 2.5 ome suspension with 33's of some sort. i've got axles from a 78 fj40 going under it. i'm also considering cutting the firewall out and replacing it with the one from the 78 parts rig. power steering, disk brakes and vintage air unit(already in there) are also in the plans. i talked to sheldon today about a 1hz/h55 combo, so that will be in the mail soon. that got me fired up about the build, as i thought i was gonna have to get on a waiting list.

a question about the doors. i plan on putting some sort of insulation on the inside of the doors and was wondering what you guys have used since i know water will be able to find its way in there. are the hushmat, dynamat types water proof?

got a tailgate, tailgate panel and upper hatch from mikesta. thanks mike.

Do you have any extra liftgate stays from Mikesta?

finally the build up starts. that is the only lv I have ever riden in. your seats look great. keep posting pics too.

you door insulation the dynamat or phat mat extreme will stick fine to the inside of the doors. i used the phat mat on mine and on the bottome flat part i cleaned it out and put a laer o fiber gals and angled it to drain holes hopefully i never have to worry about rust ont he lower seems now.

i do have two sets. i assume you're talking about the upper hatch and not the tailgate? whichever, i have two sets of each, and you're welcome to which ever set i don't use.

thanks for the tip jason, that sounds like a good plan.

i was rolling around lastnight thinking about the firewall swap, and realized it may not even be necessary with the 1hz. the main reason behind this is to run a brake booster, but i have no idea if the 1hz would be in the way like the carb on a 2f would be. anybody know of a 1hz in a 40series that i could look at?

thanks,
parker

That would be the ones!! Thanks. Let me know when you know which ones you don't want.

i can't promise you when that will be, because i really don't want get rid of anything until i'm completely done, but i will definitley hold onto them for you.

so.......now that i've decided on the diesel more and more engine opportunities are popping up. the 1hz from g and s is pricey and has to be imported, and i've been contacted by someone close by with a low mileage 2h and auto(which is what i would rather have anyway). i figured i could turbo the 2h, have my automatic and still be cheaper than the 1hz. i could also get my hands on it quicker. now, i know nothing about these diesels other than what i've read on the web, would this be a huge step in the wrong direction, or is my logic reasonable?

it's out of a 60 series. don't know if that tells you anything. i will find out.

out of a 89hj. got the a440. think i'm gonna go with it since it's alot cheaper and alot closer.

made a deal on the 2h/a440/split case combo. 2h has 76,000 miles. i'm also picking up a set of cable locking axles for it. turbo will be ordered once i figure out which one to get.

found a nice blob of bondo on the right rocker. will post some picks later to see what you guys think i should do about it.

i need to change my title to 66 hj45lv*t build

here's a couple of my damaged rocker. i know someone has replaced this area with sliders of some sort. more than likely that's the route i'm gonna take. cut it out all the way to the back and weld in some square tube. if anybody has any other ideas let me know.

That rocker area is prone to rusting out on :pig:s too. I left about 1/2", just below the lip of the door, & used some 1 X 3 X 3/16" wall tube & braced back to the frame. IPOR sells some  rocker protection that others have installed & raved about. I'll be checkin out yer build, but I gotta ask why the auto tranny & LC $$$ diesel?

always wanted a diesel. and always wanted an auto. the diesel i found had an auto with it, so i figured i'ld kill two birds with one stone. the other diesel i was looking at had a 5 speed, but it was alot more money, so here we are.

i went ahead and cut out the rocker all the way to the back. glad i did. lot mo rust and bondo in there than i thought. i'm gonna replace it with some sort of tube.

Regarding the rockers:

Burbank's LV (repaired by Profitt) had the rockers done in square tubing....looked really nice in person! I'd consider going that route for my resto.....but I'm stuck on my FJ40 project :)

Best of luck with the build!!

yeah, that's the one i saw. i'm gonna try and do the same thing.

does anybody have pictures of the factory headliner bows in place? i think the po did a little custom work on mine. i'm pretty sure the're stock, but are supposed to be a little higher and on the other side of the little lip that runs around the upper inside of the cab.
