here's a couple of my damaged rocker. i know someone has replaced this area with sliders of some sort. more than likely that's the route i'm gonna take. cut it out all the way to the back and weld in some square tube. if anybody has any other ideas let me know.

I have this peice in rust free condition if you want it. let me know.

yeah, i thought about that, but you have enough of my money already:grinpimp: thanks for the offer, though.

i'm actually probably gonna need sliders anyway with the long wheelbase and the abundance of logs in my wheeling area.

a little body work with the plasma and bfh. straight enough for me since sliders are going in there.

very nice I thoulght long and hard about doing this on my lv but my rockers are in great shape.. i will just mount them underneath. my fj62 has the sliders done the way you are doing them and it was a great mod.

yeah, that's the one i saw. i'm gonna try and do the same thing.

does anybody have pictures of the factory headliner bows in place? i think the po did a little custom work on mine. i'm pretty sure the're stock, but are supposed to be a little higher and on the other side of the little lip that runs around the upper inside of the cab.

That is the non-US headliner arrangement. My Guatemalan FJ45LV is EXACTLY the same and the '45LV parts info I have shows different setups for US and other trucks.

this is an aussie truck, but the bows are held into place by sheetmetal screws and they don't even rest against the roof, which makes me think they were a little higher from the factory and mounted some other way. do you have any pictures of yours? i may do away with them and just insulate the roof and glue an fj40 type of headliner in there.

Mine is all disassembled already so I cannot take pictures. You might see something on my rebuild thread though. From the factory yours and mine have the FJ40 type headliner glued in there, that's why it's not touching anything right now. Those bows sit BELOW the headliner when the truck is all done. I was wondering on the sheet metal screws, are yours metric heads? If so, then I'd bet that too is factory.

if that's the case, what exactly is the purpose of the bows? i can't see where the give any support to the roof, and as far as supporting the sides i wouldn't think they would be strong enough to do any good.

It'll give the roof some support against oil canning as well as hold the "40 style" headliner up. Most of those bows are like that. I know the ones in the '55 and the ones in the '60 are with the exception that they are welded in rather than bolted. I added two extra for the '55 when I restored it as I do think it helps a little.

The headliner install on Matt's truck in the sticky thread had me scratching my head until I found out that U.S. trucks have a different headliner from the rest of the world. I guess even in the '60's when off roading was not a big deal and "mall cruisers" did not exist, we still wanted a nice look in our 4x4's!!

I think I have some pics somewhere of the head liner, but I can tell you that the gap between the bows and the sheet metal roof is where foam insulation was on my truck. It looked like old carpet type foam insulation and was definitely factory.

Mark, does your truck have these same bows installed the same way? All US trucks I've seen are different. More like Matt's truck in the sticky.

my 67lv has original headliner
there is a rip near a support member
the crossmember is very close to the roof, quarter inch or so, and there is a foam insulation applied to the roof, about half inch thick, squished down between crossmember and roof

cant see ends of crossmembers, but would have thought them welded in place
bet yours were moved

do you guys think i will have any problems running a 60 series axle on the back of the lv? i know there's not alot of room under there. my plan was to use stock hubcap rims and 33x10.50's.

this is my plan as well. I don't think you will have fitment issues as far as putting it under there. I put a fzj80 rear axle under my fj62 and it fits fine . however the same issue I have with my fj62 we will have with our lv's and that is that the fj60 axle will be wider by about 2" a side or so. stock 6" hub capped wheels should work fine it might push the wheel out a bit too far and the tire could hit the fender. my way around this was to getthe OEM wheels widened to 8" and with 5.25 bs i still felt the tire was going to be a bit too close so i went with a 5" lift as well so the tire will ride below the fender instead of inside it. i think a 10.5" wide tire is about as wide aas you can go if you run inside the fender. burbankcruiser was running fj60 axle front and rear and ran the tire set up you want look in the for sale section for histhread hopefully his picks are still there.

the ffront axle is a different story you would have to outboard the spring hangers to run an fj60 axle i decide to run a fj40 axle witht he sky widening kit to match the rear ends width.

kina you need to start a build thread on your lv :)

thanks, jason. my main concern was the rear tires hitting the fenders. the axles are factory cable lockers, so i'm definitely going to keep both front and back. i have already planned on widening the front hangers, and i guess i'll get the rear mounted and then work from there. i want to run stock rims with hubcaps, so if that's been done i will continue with that plan. i will take another look at burbanks-i think there are several pics of his on root45.com.

I'm 99.9% positive that the headliner of non-US '45LV's is different from US production trucks and the parts info I have on 'LV's indicates that too (they have separate headliner parts listings from US and non-US trucks).

 :smokin:
Complete drivetrain swap - man you got yer work cut out for 'ya. Can't wait for the progress pics :bounce2: I saw where you said 2.5 OME leafs...... How about spring perch locations - will you hafta outboard the LV's hangers & move in the new axles perches? Since you're updating the drivetrain, have you thought about coils up front for a much smoother ride?
