200's in Ouray Labor Day Weekend 2015

I've wanted to see Ouray since I very first heard of it and saw the amazing pictures. Well, thanks to codyaustin5 and many others, it looked like my dream may be finally become a reality!!! It was a marathon trip for Tammy, the dogs and me, but it was soooooo worth the lack of sleep for us. We left Thursday evening, spent the night in Zion, hit up Bryce and landed in Ouray around 6:00PM Friday. We got totally hooked up by Slee with dinner, beer and swag bags, Yay Slee, thank you guys so much!! We wheeled Black Bear, Imogene and Poughkeepsie and then headed home Labor Day morning about 4:30. We cruised through Sedona and we finally got home at about 8:00PM, whew!!!

Our babies packed up and ready to go:

More pics to come!!!

I am seriously on the fence about my rim and tire selection but after seeing the stance of your rig it make me want to just order the TRD rims and order the 34 inch tires. Currently I'm planning to go with the 275/70/18 on the factory rims . I am also installing the BP-51's OME coil overs with slee UCA's
Would you consider your wheel and tire combination completely daily drivable? I spend prob 80% of my time on the highway. Lots of hum from the tires in the 70-80 mph range? Bad rubbing issues?? Thanks for any insight you can provide as I'm finalizing my order this week.

If I had been able to wait on tires until after my upcoming lift (I couldn't wait. They were dangerously bald)...I'd have gone with 34's. So...I stuck with tires that are just under 33's. I'm quite happy with them, though, considering my new-to-me 200 is still stock (save for Rock Warriors).

I agree with you about the "stance" of his 200 photos. 34's really seem to fit the vehicle nicely, and avoid issues that so often come with 35's. Once I have my BP-51/Slee UCAs (hopefully within the next few weeks), I will likely be wishing for 34s in the future. To me, 35's are cool, etc., but I'm not sure I feel the need...and not sure I want to end up wishing for a gear swap, etc.

I have the same feeling if I don't go this route I'm going to regret my decision also. I assume he fit this rim and tire combination with out the need of Tundra axels and lower control arms?

My major concern is that the car will become very sluggish and not have good highway manners with out a gear swap. Im interested to see how his runs at 70-80 mph and if the transmission hunts gears a lot?

Man I would NOT worry about the 200 being sluggish. That 5.7 engine is amazing.

Others here have experience that I do not with 34 and up on the 200 re gears...and I'm also aware that more recent models add more gears.

My 2008 wants to hit 75 or 80MPH before it happily sits in top gear...but maybe it did that with stock tires and I just didn't think about it...

Would be a good question for several here.

Did you install a diff drop kit?

No diff drop yet. To be perfectly honest, and I'm no expert, I'm not in huge hurry to do one. I've discussed it with guys I consider to know more than me and there seems to be some controversy over whether slightly changing the angle on the axles outweighs changing the pinion angle I guess. I had a 2" lift on my 4Runner for years with zero vibration and once I went to 3" lift and diff drop, I gained some vibration. I'm not saying the vibration is due to the diff drop, just saying maybe sometimes you shouldn't mess with a good thing:D. In almost 150,000 miles on the 4Runner with a 2" lift, I went through one set of CV boots and just recently replaced the half shafts, which I would hardly consider to a problem. Hence the lack of urgency to diff drop the 200...

I consider it to be completely daily drivable, but that's because it's my daily driver;) Daily drivable like stock, certainly not, but I've driven lifted trucks and SUV's my whole life and this is by far the best daily driver I've owned.

I would consider the hum from these tires to worse than BFG AT's by a sizable margin, almost MT level. But if you examine them closely, they're definitely a lot more aggressive, with larger lugs and voids than BFG's so...

Almost no rubbing with the mudflap trimmed. I think that if I trimmed a little more or removed it, there may be no rubbing at all during normal driving, but I haven't tested this theory.

About diff dropping the 200...

After talking to guys at Slee... I'm convinced that a diff drop is not really necessary.

I diff dropped my 100...and STILL had CV problems.
But look at the CV angles on your 200... I looked, and at stock height, the CVs are practically angling UP compared with the 100 series!
I was told that the 200 CVs have done extremely well with a lift without diff a diff drop, and after looking at the CVs on mine, I'm believing that.

To others here:
Curious how many lifted 200's are having CV issues...?

Thanks a lot for your insight. I think what I have decided to do for the time being is stick with my factory rims and run the BFG KO2's in 33's and when I change the rims I will be going to your setup.

thanks again.

Christo told me the same thing, that it was not necessary to do a diff drop. on my new 200. But after my 08' needing to replace two CV boots on separate occasions,I was convinced by another tech that a diff drop would cure the issue. It did. 5 years later and no issues up until I sold it for my new LC. I hope putting on the diff drop that I just ordered from Marks4wd from AUSSIE land now doesn't jinx my decision and cause issues down the road.

Very nice build man, the wheels look great powdercoated black. I had a question, with your 285/75/17 Toyo's being at a 33.9" overall diameter, do you think there is enough room if you ran Nitto Trail Grapplers (34.09" overall diameter)? I also have Rock Warriors and am trying to see if that would hit the KDSS pieces. Also, are you running wheel spacers by chance? Thanks in advance

Mine do rub the swaybar/KDSS, but so rarely I pretty much don't even notice it. I would expect the Nitto's to be pretty similar if not a tiny bit more frequently rubbing. The width and corner tread profile will also play a role... I'm not running spacers.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Any more pics of your ride? How is she holding up so far?

Prinsu roof rack installed! Finally got the roof rack on yesterday. We decided to go with the Prinsu because we thought it looked the best and is really low profile. It's also really strong, 1/4" thick side panels, 1" X 2" aluminum slats and it's the only rack we know of that utilizes all eight of the 200's factory roof mounting points (16 - 8mm bolts). I did do a few things different than the roof rack typically comes from Prinsu.
  • We ordered the rack raw so we could have it powder coated the color we wanted and fine tune it prior to costing it
  • I added a radius to all sharp corners
  • I replaced all of the hardware it came with including countersunk hardware for the wind deflector
We're going to be mounting 4 camping lights on the side panels and maybe a 40" single row LED bar for the front. You can see one of the lights is mounted already.

That is a great looking roof rack. Really like the low profile.

Any insight on how much height the rack added over stock height ? love your build !!

Thanks guys! I can't comment on how the height compares to stock because I didn't take any before measurements or pics. I can say that the Prinsu is pretty much exactly one inch taller than the shark fin antenna.

Got some additions I've been waiting to install. The Prinsu is set up very similaly to the Frontrunner for mounting accessories or tie down points. There are tracks in the extruded aluminum to slide in hardware, but I had a different idea for my tie down points. I really like the idea of quickly moveable/removeable rings, so here's what I did. Looks like the mounts were made for the Prinsu!!

Nice thinking!

Looks great, can you share where you got the hardware?
just waiting on the front wind deflector to arrive so I can install my Prinsu.
I'll take photos and measurements of before and after.
