Wow! All that looks great. Sorry I missed you guys. I'll take your word for it that 31s and open diffs could go through any of that. I hope to get some ARB lockers fairly soon. Keep me in the loop about building sliders. I make it up to Oregon on a fairly regular basis.

Looks like we have several guys interested in a slider build. All we need is to plan the slider construction, buy materials, and schedule a fab day (or days).

List of peeps interested:

Mountain Goat
Dogboy2
Dirtgypsy
FF LC Freak
justin85-60
Ducks
ArmyFJ
mtb_rider
portfj62

Did I miss anyone?

So how about this - I'll start on some drawings. Anyone else could get in on this too. Dogboy, you have mad drafting skillz. Wanna sketch out some sliders? We can compare notes.

Guys with metal connections - can you decide between yourselves who can get the best prices? I'm thinking 1.5 to 2", 3/16 wall round tube, 1.5 x 2.5", 3/16 wall rectangular tube, 3/16 to 1/4" plate for the brackets. Does anyone have a CNC connection that we can make use of for fabbing the brackets? I might. Not sure anymore.

I have some welding capability. Who has a shop we can work in?

Let's get this slider train a-rollin'!

Funny you should ask..... that train is already rollin' :D

I have a welder, and some (a little) skills. I have a garage but its not a shop by any means. I do have a pipe notcher though. Little harbor freight deal, but it works well. I will try to find out about the bender today. This may be a good reason to buy one if there are enough people looking to do this...

Wait a min. I wasn't on that list. :)
I am still willing to help out I love doing this kind of work.

Matthew

Dude, I bumped it... kinda hard actually.

Are you sure? Check the list again. :)

I wish I had more time to help with the sliders project but with a new baby and coaching my other daughter's soccer team this year I have very little time left over hence the reason I started wheelin at 8:00 that morning. :) I'll check back for the dates you guys come up with and see if it'll work for me. I've got 220v welder a 110v welder, plasma, horizontal bandsaw, and a drill press...

portfj62 is interested and has access to some fab equipment/ welding

mtbrider is interested as well

your line items look to be a good start

the only other option I would add would be to make this a bolt on item. Benz springs in p-town should be able to hook us up with about anything we request in regards to u-bolts. so I was thinking 7/16 size bolt/ thread?

unfortunately I don't have a shop but I can weld and grind pretty well, plus my garage is always open.

lt and helocat are knee deep in fj cruiser stuff. I am becoming the local pest at their shop and unless I have an endless supply of cash they will be hard pressed to stop making money and start prototyping stuff for us 60's guys. The best I have got from them is to buy what they already make and see if I can get it to work. Don't get me wrong those guys are really great but they have a business to run and families to feed and let's face it, most 60's guys don't have a lot of extra funds for $900 sliders and $1500 bumpers. So in the meantime I will just keep popping in and offering my rig for prototype stuff on

mtb_rider and portfj62 added to "the list".

SolidWorks? You go man!

I will be trying to come up with something sorta quick-like in AutoCad.

I prefer weld-on myself, but we can come up with a design to accomodate both.

Holy 4 pages of extreme tech ;)

Looks like a hell of a lot of fun it also looks like when I move over there I am going to have to bring all my fab tools with me (roll cage bender, welder, etc etc)...

The earliest Ill be over there is the end of next summer, or if by some freak chance I get a job right out of college this Christmas (when I graduate) in Oregon..I will be there in January but I dont really see that happening. I plotted my trip over the to Oregon, Its something like 3,500 miles....I am stoked to do it in the 60,just need to rebuild the tranny first.

Ill be there someday soon, but how so is a good question...

Broken,
When I get there....you ready to be talked into trails way over our heads?:D

What kind of lenghts would be best for these materials. Not sure what they come in, but need to know in case my choices are, say, 12' or 20'. Just need to know what the designs call for, and I can figure out the rest.

I BURIED my 60 in some waist deep, end of the summer, wooly bogger pit in the White River bottoms, 4 miles from my house...

I look like an aborigine, covered with mud, dried into mudlocks....

Pics in the am with my 4Runner on rescue patrol.
