Title says it all. Couldn't find a thread on this. I am assuming you have to remove the glass to replace the headliner? I don't really want to as my windshield and cargo windows have the original chrome trim on them. Seems like it would have to be to be done right?

Bummer, that's what I thought. My headliner is actually in really good shape for the age. I assumed it was original because all of the original glass with chrome moulding is there. Replacement headliners seem to be a brighter white than mine. Maybe it was replaced years ago when they still offered the original style chrome trimmed rubber? Or was that ever offered?

@wngrog only reason i was considering it is that i want to take the truck back to original blue and white. This headliner seems to me more of a tan color. Maybe that's how it was originally, i don't know. I for sure don't want to remove any glass because it still has original rubber in good shape - that and it sounds like it sucks to install a new headliner, and then there is the cost.

Must of been a smoker. What kind of paint job are you shooting for? Tape around windows or remove them and do it right (my opinion). If you're not going to enter in the Show & Shine at the Pig Party, just shoot around the windows and save the headliner. I always had a bad habit of poking holes in the headliner, so I left mine out.

This is what I did to install a headliner with out removing the glass. Used a brush to apply contact cement where needed, then added 1/8" x 1/2" aluminum trim. Trim is to hold headliner so it will not peal back over time. I also like the stainless trim on the exterior but the rubber is dried and stone hard. Over the last 4 years I have hunted down used good condition supple window rubber so that if I feel the need to replace my windshield (which is sandblasted by time and has 2 bullet holes) I will have the necessary parts to still be able to reuse the original stainless trim. I will install a headliner properly at that time.

Your headliner looks perfect. Just do a good job prepping the paint up to the existing rubber and tape it off accurately. If you rubber is still supply, it is possible to reuse and not horribly difficult to install, just time consuming and more things to go wrong. Keep it simple unless its imperative and fun to make it difficult. After driving off road through red, brown and black dust storms my new head liner is a tan color now to.

Just KISS it and move on:deadhorse:
