What an auto classroom ought to look like.

Wasn't feeling the body work today so I told myself I'd do something I'd been dreading and then be done with it for the day. I went to the hardware store, bought some new, good quality drill bits and drilled out the broken bolts in the cowl and roof panel. All but two of the 16 w/s bracket bolts had had the heads drilled off and 12 of the roof panel bolts were snapped off.

It really went a lot better than I thought it might. Two of the captured nuts in the cowl spun and had to be broken out of the cowl and three of the roof panel bolts needed to have the spot welds drilled out of the captured nuts. Everything else got drilled and tapped.

Then I sandblasted and installed the w/s brackets and installed the roof. It'll all come back apart to finish, but it all lines up.

Outside Chicago. I had a 55 grill hanging for a couple of years.

Got both bezels down to bare metal and hit them with K38.

Took the w/s brackets back off and sprayed them with primer.

Hit the roof panel with a couple of little spots of filler, 3 coats of high build, blocked it down and hit it with three more coats of high build. It's just not going to get perfect. I have to find a place where it's good enough. I was hoping to shoot all the Cygnus White today, but it's not going to happen.

Not today. The gun was uncoorperative and dripped on the roof panel as I was sealing it so I have to wait until tomorrow to sand it down and spray color.

I did block down the roof panel again, and the bezels and the cab back. I also started blocking the tub. I Got the rest of the stuff off of the dash. There's some small holes to fill.

I also worked on the trans tunnel for a while and mounted the turn signals on the fenders.

Okay. I lied.

It was too boring sitting around the house so I went back to the shop, sanded the top and shot the cygnus white.

Can't put it together with Lily until tomorrow when it's dry.

The cap is nowhere near straight, but it's the best it's gonna get.

Glad I went in today. The bezels both had light spots. This paint covers really well, but hanging them was a mistake.

I put the better one on both bibs to get pics of the colors. Cygnus is not nearly as white as I remembered.

I mixed up a 6 oz. cup and hit them again before I left.

I also flipped the roof cap to get the underside that won't get covered in sound insulation and headliner.

Few more hours today.

Popped the cab off and blocked it all down. had to work for a while on the door sills. I wasn't happy about the profile where the doors meet the lower parts of the sill.

Filled some holes in the dash

Threw down another 20 oz. of high build on the cab and cab back. More blocking tomorrow. I really hope it will be all in color next weekend.

Whew. Needed way more blocking than I thought.

Stripped the doors down while I was waiting for stuff to dry. One door is down to bare sheet metal and the other down to the factory primer.

Ran the trans cooler lines too.
