Jordon, the store bought ends are too small for the bolt on the fj40 starter. At least what is available in HS.

Myke, you're not looking at the right places for your ends. I know Hot Springs has them somewhere, as I did the same thing with Snoopy several years ago. I ran a jumper ground from block to frame on both sides to try to help with my alternator heating up (...and it worked).
Just gotta keep looking. Take the bolt with you if you must. Go buy an electrical kit if you must. I know they can be found. You will likely have to increase your wire size (and you should, anyway) to get to the bigger bolts.

Mike, I run into this kind os stuff often. If I don't have the appropriate size connector I have many times just drilled or reamed out the hole till the bolt fits (depending upon how much material needs to be removed). Is there enough left after you make the bolt fit if you do this?
The ones available here are too thin to bore out at all. I have a SOR used one being shipped as a back up. Got some leads on some electrical places other than chain big box stores. Was wondering about a tractor store like a JD. Thought they might but I will figure something out it is just eating lots of time. One of a few vices of small town living.
Crowe-Burlingame Bumper-to-Bumper has some off-the-wall stuff and staffed by very knowledgeable people. It's off Grand Ave. near the Dodge's Store. If any auto parts store in Hot Springs has what you need, my vote would be them.
Might try Tractor Supply off Airport Rd. Also, Treadway Electric is off of Valley St. and Grand Ave. Heck, even Lowe's would probably have what you need.

Jordon. Thanks. That is very helpful. Tractor supply has very few things for tractors. Going to hit this list. Sad thing is that ground wire was probably ok but I started swapping out whatever I could, or thought I could.
I don't know what options are available to you in HS, but most marine supply stores sell bulk electrical cable in various gauges, and assorted connectors. Full service shops will let you use their crimping tools as well.

Well I got everything hooked back up. Nothing.
At least all the wires look new.
I can get starter to click if I bypass everything but still can't get it to turn over even when doing ignition key to start simultaneously.
I've checked fuses that I can find and follow wires around but there is a lot of stuff not hooked up and goes nowhere.
Putting tools away and towing it Monday to Bobby.

Myke, have you let Chris at ORS take a look? That'd save you a trip to LR just to get the starting issue resolved. He's pretty sharp, regardless of vehicle.
He has a 9am house call set up.

I've owned 2 77s. Both eventually went to Baertrax ( 1st to Russ, 2nd to Josh) and had completely new harnesses installed.
In my current 40, Josh also added a Mean Green alt and a MG starter...all of my electrical Gremlins are gone and I couldn't be happier.
If it's a keeper, replace the entire harness and be done!
