Yeah John I am going to take my springs (skyjacker) off and clean and paint. I listened to the creaking and squeeking for 6 straight days in Moab! Can't handle it any more. I will split the cost of the paint if you want to do that.

Jeff, if you use that SLIP Plate coating, be sure you glove up before painting. That stuff is almost impossible to get off your skin. Don't axe how I know. :frown:

BTW, a gallon should be plenty to coat 2 sets of leaf springs, x8 spring packs I mean.

Jeff let me get mine oFf and see what I'm dealing with but that sounds good. You thought about putting rust bullet or por on them?

is this maybe a good deal?

Toyota FJ40 75

Probably is a decent deal, provided you're not a purist. I wouldn't want a 40 with a Chevy engine, but that's just me. They're a good fit and many 40 owners swear by them.

Except for the wheels that is a nice 40.

So the wheels should be more glossy chrome?

No no they need to be wore out, black and plain, duh :double flip off with a slice of lemon:

...and the front bumper, the chrome bezel, incomplete gauges, the mismatched spare wheel, diamond plate, the ugly/wierd shaped BesTop, the placement of the speakers in the doors, and the stupid bottle opener bolted to the DASH! Fo real!

My 40 is an '82 so already has Mr. T's OEM electronic ignition. If it didn't, I'd slap in a DUI setup without hesitation. One of our local guys has it in his '77 and it performs flawlessly. It made a remarkable difference in starting and performance (to the extent that a stock 2F has performance). You can buy direct, and IIRC Man-A-Fre also sells them. And probably many other vendors.

Performance Distributors - High Performance and Racing Ignition Systems

pretty sure my points are shot so im beginning to shopin earnest for a replacement dizzy. I like what I have read about performance and the fact they are in memphrica......has anyone used their dizzy AND a man a fre....for comparisons sake? I don't think an oem is the way to go due to points and I love the one wire clean look of the DUI

thoughts, comparisons of types yall have run are greatly appreciated.....fyi ive got the original 2f, 38 webber and a new factory starter

I don't get your question. Performance Distributors manufactures and sells DUI distributors direct. They also sell through vendors such as Man-A-Fre. It's the same DUI distributor whether you buy from Performance or MAF or any other vendor. There's nothing to compare, other than customer service.

I read several threads that alluded to the fact Man a Fre had a seperate in house/generic version....if no then disregard!

You may be correct, but I don't see it listed in their online catalog. When I spoke to Steve at MAF a couple of years ago he said their DUI units came from Performance. I thought DUI was a trademarked name owned by Performance. MAF could have introduced a generic version in the interim.

edit: You are correct. Now there's a MAF "Lightning Strike" HEI ignition, which must be the generic version you mentioned. They're still selling Performance's DUI ignitions as well.

that's it "lightening strike" guys liked one or the other but, reading bn the lines, I think that's bc they were just being loyal to whichever one they had installed. I like the DUI as the "original" and will most likely go that route.....sorry for the confusion:rolleyes:

Have seen several rigs running the DUI and all have loved it. I think Lash has one.

Same here, never known anyone to be dissatisfied with DUI gear. My '82 has factory electronic ignition but I've considered swapping it out for a DUI unit, just to get rid of the external coil and igniter. The $400+ hit always talks me out of it but I may suck it up and make the swap anyway...before the great Alaska expedition.
