thanks Sea Knight.......yeah the PPO did it and it's only a few years old so im leaving it.

I am also toying with the idea of a new dizzy...Electronic ignitions are reliable and low maintenence. I think mine still has the semi electronic ignitions on the 76-78 models but I dont know how to tell. I am considering an HEI to get away from points....I think it may be part of my starting woes........thoughts?

My 40 is an '82 so already has Mr. T's OEM electronic ignition. If it didn't, I'd slap in a DUI setup without hesitation. One of our local guys has it in his '77 and it performs flawlessly. It made a remarkable difference in starting and performance (to the extent that a stock 2F has performance). You can buy direct, and IIRC Man-A-Fre also sells them. And probably many other vendors.

awesome link!!! I think this is my next mod....looks like a 1  job too as there aren't to many wires to fool with.

I looked at my dissy earlier and it has a little mud, grim, and a wing of some bug in it.....it HAS to be original so this would certainly help performance.

:DI have one:D

just trying to determine if my webber 38 should stay or go back to the factory...id have to get a choke cable too, but that's nuthin......im just sick of sitting turning her over for 2 minutes before I get going......i think that's why the starter finally crapped out......OVER USE!!!

What Weber do you have? My 38 has an electric choke. BTW, Mine is tough to crank when it hasn't been cranked in a while. Once it cranks it's ok for the rest of the day.

Jeff, you aren't saying the cranking issue is Weber related, are you? I'm curious because I had a Weber 38 on my '76 40 and never had any cranking or starting issues. I do experience tough cranking with the '82 after it hasn't been run for several days. It has a stock AISIN carb, which I'll have rebuilt after I get my check from that Nigerian guy.

fairly certain its a 38 however Rob and I couldn't find any distinguishing marks on it.... see pic below

mine is hard to start first of the day, but if it sits more than 3 hours it has to be cranked a few minutes again to turn over.....but that may have been the starter beginning to fail?

Find a complete Aisin carb and send it to jackass Mark A at Marks Offroad and get it rebuilt. He is the best at it.

No way I would put a fuel injection on a non-rockcralwer

Oh snap!
Grog just called you a non rock crawler, shush! What you gonna do abou it.
So fuel injection is just for rock crawlers? ?When the last time you popped a hood on any vehicle?? ; )

Technically I have not rock crawled so Nolan is correct....he also understands that while I appreciate the sport I have neither the time nor money for it and also want my rig to be more a DD/weekend family trail rig around MS. Also I believe Nolan was suggesting that a 40 is best when maintained close to stock as that's how it was designed (he probably also was remembering Idon't have the cash to "drop in" fuel injection esp. as it wouldn't better my desired needs for it.

Im pretty sure I was under my hood for 2 hours last night......If you were referring to Nolan I can't say but I can guarantee it was within 48 hours.;)

If the two chambers are the same size it's a 38/38

awesome.....yes Rob is correct...38.....and now ive learned something today:grinpimp:

Exactly what I was saying. Putting EFI on a Zuk is about 1/10th the cost of putting it on a 2F. Shush is not spending that cash.....nor do I blame him.

I have been happy over the years with Weber carbs because I never could find the right rebuilder for Aisin stuff. A well built Aisin is the ticket, but I am sure the Weber can be made to work well....Jeff's does.

Are you talking about the venturis? Do the Weber 2bbls act like a 4bbl in that the 2nd barrel is only activated under a vacuum draw? Why else would one venturi be smaller than the other on the 38/36?

I assumed Nolan meant barrels.

Nolen, do you have confidence in Jim Chenoweth at TLC Performance for AISIN rebuilds, or have you not dealt with him? He's rebuilt two for me, with excellent results. IIRC the cost was around $250, but that wasn't recent. No idea on current pricing or turnaround time.

Another carb option is Trollhole's AISIN clone. It's a Chinese ripoff that's cheaper than a rebuild and seems to get excellent reviews from MUDers.

I have an aisin that is new. What would it take to tune a new one like that? Or is it a definite send off to be checked deal?

1. Cause it's all ready on the truck
2. Jeff has had such good results with his
3. I have no choke cable
4. I know nothing about swapping them out

JimC is awesome. Mark and Jim are the best at this. Mark is a bit faster and a friend. I get my dizzy's and emissions caps from Jim. I would use Jim for anything PLUS you can email him and Algazy makes you call :)

Algazy say the chinese carbs are total garbage.

Choke cable is easy.

I would take Cruiser and Aisin carb to Myron and get him to bolt that s*** up for you. Do you have the stock air cleaner?
