Need some advice.....
Took the latest acquisition, the tan 74 with 350, on a little stress test....driving highway and stop and go in 103* heat. Pulled in the driveway just in time for the radiator to give out (my dubious luck continues.)
So, rebuilt radiator, new hoses, new belts....slop in the water pump so off it went and installed a new HD unit.
Question is: the existing system had a 5 blade fan...I'm thinking 6 bladed flex fan would be better.

Thoughts?

Perry does it have fan shroud?
Biggest issue I've seen was lack of shroud on V8; thus no air flow thru radiator.

Fact. My 77 (2F) ran hot (er than normal) for years until Baertrax added an aluminum shroud...now she's as cool as a cucumber.

Oh yes, big ole shroud...and after the pump, rad rebuild and coolant that isn't brown, it runs cool as a cucumber too (actually it never ran hot before, just catastrophic failure on the radiator.) I want to make sure I have every advantage on the cooling system while I'm there.

I'll take the 4 U shaped u-bolts. I'll be back in Mississippi in a couple of weeks, can pick them up and pay you then, if that works. I intend to spend a day in Jackson on at least one end of the trip.
 
If anyone is looking for an almost perfect 40, Brian Ventura from our Austin club is selling his, in order to buy a BJ42. One of the nicest trucks I've seen. Rebuilt 2F, needs nothing, and has no rust. He had a "Buy It Now" price of $22K on the listing, but it looks like that's been removed.

Local, dune beige, 76-78 in decent condition, for a good price is gonna be a bit of a challenge but I'll keep an eye out for you.

Buy the next 12-18k 40 you find. If they are in decent shape and run well that's about all they are worth. A fully restored might bring 25k but to me that's a stretch. Just sayin...
