Not yet. My DD blew an HG so that drained some funds. I'm going to squeeze the trigger on a MAF and new O2 sensors in the next wee or two. After that I'll do the distributor, plugs & wires (probably go with one of the few performance options).

If anyone else gets a wild hair and decides to swap in a 3FE I have a totally rebuilt 15,000 mile 3fe that I will part with. 100 percent complete harness computer emissions everything. I'm going diesel. Motor is still in vehicle you can hear it run. I'm not hijacking just saying if someone else wants to do this swap I've got the motor for you.

What year is it?

So I just replaced both O2s and the MAF. My 2k hesitation is gone and best news is cruising the local freeways at 70ish mph yielded 14.6 mpg up from 9.5 on the last tank. I have that big Garvin roof rack so a lot of drag at speed.

I am having trouble setting the timing because my light is losing the signal. I also have bad misfiring at idle. I am going get a new coil, distributor and wires from Performance Distributor and call it a day on that.

I did both at the same time but I'd guess MAF on that one. The O2 sensors seemed to read the same all the time which was nothing to a few mV.

I went through Rock Auto. It wasn't cheap. I have finally hit the point where I'm throwing the money at the problem. Next up is ignition.

I haven't updated this thread in a long time, however I found the cause of my mid range hesitations and horrible fuel economy.

A while back in the thread I probably mentioned I had to correct some O2 sensor wiring. Well I got them crossed. This is bad because now on bank of 3 is listening to the other sensor. If that other back goes lean, it tells the sensor to enrichen the first back. That makes the second bank go leaner and you get the picture. In the end I had both banks with dead 02 sensors running way too rich. Another set of O2 sensors and corrected wiring (which meant chasing it to the ECU) and my truck is now actively managing its fuel properly and runs better than ever.

The other thing contributing to poor fuel economy are leaks. I have now 3 clamps on each connection that doesn't have a barb. I find I clamp it, the hose settles, and I get leaks that initially only leak when under pressure and warm. Of course the fuel evaporates very quickly when warm making the leaks hard to find. This time, the leak finally formed a puddle under the truck and I found it.

Now it purrs. When I get done with my ARB I will see what the new MPG is with the 33X10.5's I just installed.

I have likely replaced parts that are not necessarily bad but oh well, they are all old parts. I do occasionally get a speed sensor code so a distributor could be in my future but that code is relatively infrequent.

Great swap and write-up Frank!

I believe the speed sensor is in the distributor. It is whatever the engine came with.
