I'm by no means an expert on IFS 4Runners but I think the two at the transfer case are a double cardigan joint. The CV joints are where the front axle articulates on either side of the front diff. Or I could be totally wrong.

not the cv joints.... on the drive shaft.... there seems to be 3 u joints....

That's what I was referring to and yes they are all that way. That joint with the 3 grease fittings is called a double cardigan joint. Here is a photo from an 85 FSM. I can't imagine that the IFS version is much different.

Yes, it keeps you nice and warm in the winter...

(you mean double CARDAN joint)

A single cardan joint is not a true CV joint. A double one is. Good explanation here:

Universal joint - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

hey i have an ifs one on the front of my 84 so they are the same.

Not quite. The double cardan joint in the front shafts that were on the solid axle trucks have more flexibility in the joint. I don't remember the difference in angles, but it's significant.

Maybe one of decavo's ladies knit him a hemp sweater and he wrapped it around his driveshaft?

My 91 4runner had a double cardan in the front. After the lift and dual cases I went DC in the back as well.

after I tried to smoke the sweeter something did wrap around my drive shaft....

O>K> so like I am going to replace this joint what do I ask for at the auto parts.... I already have the 4 u joints now I am going to replace the cardan joint.

I also need the torque spec for the engine and such... Can anyone help me out with a few pages of a fsm or rebuild manual... Spec for engine rebuild is what I am after..

Yes it was late last night in England when I posted that and yes I know that it's called a Double Cardan Joint...but thanks everyone for the correction. At least it was spelled correct in the photo that I posted!

Btw, where were all you guys when he first posted the question?

and Joe, you still haven't spelled it correctly.
