Wow, now that is a serious road trip.

To bad its so bad on the frame, I was told a rust free frame is not far from me, however I have never gone to look at it.

There is a little island just of Vancouver island(notice I never said which one) that has a 45 in the thorn bushes, might go up this summer and pull the vin numbers and see who owns if anybody.

When I was crawling around the underside of my newly aquired 1966 FJ45L-PB (LWB?), I noticed a large splice in the frame. Identical on both sides, located at the rear tub mount where the frame slopes upward. It was like a perfectly formed C-channel that fit perfectly. There were factory rivets in it, welds on the edges and the body mount was also riveted on. That all makes me think it was factory.

I didn't get a pic But I will when I get a chance this weekend.

truely didn't mean fib/lie.......but just a different perception of what rust is then folks south of the border.........up north....... if ya cant put your fist thru the body/frame.......its rust free

from Minnesota to B.C holy smokes man . wish i new about those rigs i've wanted a 45 for a few years now .would of been all over that ,great find . ya us Canadians always fib about the rust . everything here has rust . .

Not to steal the thread, but John has a point with BC cruisers and double for the ones that run up to the ski destinations, lotsa salt on those roads.

Alberta is pretty darn dry in the summer and more north they have pretty cold almost dry winters, so I have found thier cruisers to be in much better shape. Although every cruiser is different when it comes to rust.

Matt, not sure if you're interested but if the troopies and the LWB pickups share the same frame I might be able to find a solid frame at the wreckers in Guatemala. There are three troopies there, none of which are restoration candidates, except maybe by you, but I think the frames are probably fine judging from the frame under my BJ60 that came from a Honduran wrecker. There are pic's of my '60 frame here http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427623 just so you know that this Canadian HAS seen rust free frames and can tell the difference!!

Shipping can get pricey but I don't know what connections you have in that department.

I have been watching for the '45 pickup for you here in Guatemala but they are not common in the city and I have yet to see one for sale or at the wrecker (lot's of BJ40's at the wrecker as well as the three troopies, a couple of '55's and even a picked apart '75 pickup that got squashed which is why it's at the wrecker.

Yup, that is exactly what my 66 looks like. That's what I was trying to post on your other thread, but it was too dark and my frame is already black.
It's clearly a factory joint, but no telling if they did away with that later on.
Will you be talking with lomousass about body parts, or fabbing all your own?

For fun I drove the lwb to work today For such a hunk of s*** the thing sure runs and drives amazingly well? Drives pretty much straight and true at 55 mph and the motor is quiet, runs and starts well.

The lwb is trying to take care of itself ;p I picked up a metal lawn mower shipping crate we had laying out back and 4 used lawn mower tires we had laying around tonight. I'm not officially starting yet, but a 4' x 4' stand to set the cab on might accidently get welded together in the next couple days??

Checked out that link, very, very nice work!! If I can't locate a frame I might be doing some stuff like that, although I would prefer to round up a nice used one. 99.9% sure the used frame is happening, just might take a few weeks.....or months.

And I'll try to keep the thread rolling along as much as the lv.......if the wife lets me

I'll try to get a pic tomorrow in the daylight, it would suck right now.

I will try, I have an appointment tomorrow evening at a wheel dyno business. He said about 4 hours and 3 runs on the dyno...the plan is to set up the jets and metering rods for optimum performance and mpg at 60 mph.

Got home from the dyno guy and it was dark. I still went out there and stuck the camera underneath the lv and snapped some shots. I had no idea what I was taking a pic of, but I got these.

I'll try to take some more in the daylight tomorrow, but this is the ball park idea. I don't think these pics really show the extent of the rust damage. I think it will really be apparent when I take it apart, sandblast it and take the frame home in a bucket

mmmmmm.........sure.........if your coming up for 3 or 4 days, I bet we could do some 40 frame grafting and get it respectable again ;p

I'm pretty durable, but I think if you saw this frame in person.....even you would cringe? I know you have your Landcruiser ear to the ground....if you hear of a frame floating around, please let me know
