I just put tbi on my 2f. I dont know personally how the 3fe swap runs, but holy cow, my 2f is a new animal. Couldnt tell you numbers but I can tell you that it raps like a v6 and has at least 20%-30% more power, and throttle response is sick. Paging 2badfjs...........I let him drive it today. He came back smiling said it wasnt fair. The nice thing about using gm tbi is parts are readily on the shelf and they are cheap. Just my 2cents, I would check into it for sure. Im more than willing to let anyone drive it.

Hey man, I'll see you tomorrow...I think I want to take you up on that offer. I'm taking the 40 to your shop for the day. :-)

you gotta drive it!

the sad thing is, you'll have to bring it back.

unbelievable shawn!!

For you colorado guys - the Yota yard has 3-4 60's on site and I think 2 62-s on site and they all still have their engines. If you're looking for a 3FE Head and TB. The guy at the yard quoted me $600 for the entire engine as is.

OH man...what I am getting myself into!??

Bummer, I can't wait! I dream of going skiing without waving the VW's and truckers past me...at least if I hit the woods no one will see me! ;-)

How different is the GM setup vs. the 3fe setup? Is it pretty much the same but with different names stamped on the parts? I know next to nothing about all this stuff...

The GM TBI pretty much only replaces the carb, kinda like a fancy computerized carb. The rest of the 2F would be intact.

The 3FE is a different system altogether and injects fuel at each cylinder instead at once central location.

Can you post up a parts/price list? Got any pics?

I will post some pics for sure, let me resize them all and hopefully in the next day or two. Do a google search on 2f Tbi. There is a site by Tom Quinn. He lists out all the parts. I opted not to use the knock sensor, or the vss. they are not needed. vss will just kill fuel on decel and it is a PITA conversion, The knock sensor isnt necessary if you set your base timing correctly.

here is the link. Im in mine about $1500. The install took me a weekend and am still sorta tuning it. Granted the 3fe conversion is mpfi and mine is tbi, but its a 2f. Your not gunna get 200 ponies out of a stock motor with either. Ill put my tbi against a 3fe swap anytime, I would be curious to see how they do.

Then we can have a burn out competition. :)

Ok, so I finally got my 2FE running correctly. I have an '84 FJ60 with a rebuilt short block: .5 mm OS pistons, reground crank, doubt it was balanced (bought it with the rebuilt motor) otherwise a stock rebuild. I used the EFI system and head from an '88 FJ62. Because I started with a 60 I used all the FJ60 front accessories. From the head gasket up is all '88 3FE. I did NOT have to make any brackets to fit the accessories to the front of the motor. I THINK I might have ground on the P/S bracket and front 3FE exhaust manifold so they would fit together otherwise it was a bolt-on deal. I used the '88 fuel tank and fuel lines on the frame rails. Also used the '88 coolant lines on the passenger side of the head. Used the '88 distributor and coil/ignitor too as the computer controls the timing on the 3FE. O2 sensors came from a '96 Camaro Z28 (4 wire just like Toyota but easier to get). Exhaust is stock 3FE manifolds into a custom Y-pipe into 2 1/2" cat and 50 series Flowmaster. I left the 3FE EGR but pulled the AIR injection/AIR pump. Timing is set at stock 7 degrees. I stripped only the wires connected to the EFI computer out of the '88 FJ62 harness otherwise I used the stock 60 harness. Yes, the A/C is still there and works great.

Driving impressions: This 2FE has plenty of nice smooth power from idle to each shift point. Revs freely (even though I used an early F flywheel with the "inertial ring"). Starts easily (no more pump this many times and choke this far and cross yer fingers BS). Cruising down the highway was effortless; if I needed to pass I just squeezed the pedal down and away we went. Same with any of the hills around here (yes, even in IN we have some decent hills); just press the pedal and go. Only thing I'd like is a 5 speed for the overdrive.

I have had both well tuned stock carbs and a couple TBI conversions and would not even bother with them now that I have the 2FE sorted out. Would definitely do this conversion again!

here's an update for you 2fe guys.

84cruiser called me on his way hunting on friday.
called from gunnison co. 16mpg in the mountians and pulled monarch pass at 55mph.
i think he's got it dialed in :D

whats the 2fe get? ;)

we'll be tbi'ing my 40!

Exhaust is stock 3FE manifolds into a custom Y-pipe into 2 1/2" cat and 50 series Flowmaster.

Nick,

What do you think of the FlowMaster 50? That was the muffler I was looking at for my project, but some thought it was going to be too loud.

im running the 50 series on my 3fe, the rest of the exhaust is stock other than 2 1/2" down pipes. i love how it sounds, if i get on it, it sounds great but it's quiet enough at cruising speeds to still listen to my stereo

Meh... gettin' the same outa my 2FE. Pulls better than my TBI stuff ever did. Glad 84cruiser is satisfied with his setup. I hope yours works out just as good. I'm quite happy with my 2FE thankyouverymuch!

Wanna buy an Up & Over Innovations TBI to stock intake adapter? How about the rest of the stuff? I've got at least one complete system I'm not gonna use... ;)

Pretty much what he said. I can't hear the exhaust over the Swampers. But when I do catch it now and then it sounded great to me!

Just got back from hunting. Jim already informed you of the mpg I got pulling the mountains. The first part of the treck it fast highway , about 75mph, that puts me at 3,000 rpm. for 120 miles or so. Then I pulled the mountains for another 100miles and monarch pass at 55mph . Down the hill to gunnison to fill up..16mpg!, and plenty of power. The second leg of the trip is flatter, a few small passes and slower speeds. 65 mph puts me about 2500rpm. I think about 140 miles later I was in Telluride.....17mpg. I have never driven a 2fe conversion but would like to test them out together, just to see what is what. I think whatever makes people happy is what they should do. The cool thing about my tbi setup, I can add an Rv cam add high compression pistons and reprogram my chip to make it run perfect. Can a 2fe.........no, what you have is what you get. All my parts I can find anywhere, and they are cheap. Readily available 3fe parts, Ya never know. Anyhow Im diggin the cruiser, best thing I ever did. Now I can start keeping miles of my other truck.

You can add a cam and over bored throttle body and computer adjustments to the 2F-E and it will run perfect also. I hear ya on the parts, but I haven't really needed anything for the EFI.
