Does anyone know the validity of the pictures in the attached thread?

I think they're legit. The guy who shot the pics is the one mentioned above that became such a die hard V35A truther that he posted internal Toyota stuff and got a cease and desist... seems like he's made it his life mission to get to the bottom of it and he doesn't even work for Toyota. That's dedication. I don't know where or how but he got his hands on that brand new block and kept it inside his house to tear down and shoot those pics. I don't think he would fake the machining debris, or have any reason to.

Isn't there a site that take snapshots of other site or is that only on reddit
I just tried archive.org and it saved a few snapshots of the forum but nothing too deep. I found one deleted thread that had over 4K posts but it was all pre-recall. Don't know how helpful it is.

The spreadsheet was interesting but for the life of me I can't find it. It was a Google doc where he compiled people's info. Mileage at failure, build date, how the failure happened, 1st engine failures, 2nd engine failures, failures outside of the recall, hybrid vs non-hybrid etc.

The spreadsheet was made private when the member was banned from tundra forums when Toyota complained.

I won't post it here, but if you have specific questions about it I can take a look for you from my saved copy.

For sure, you don't want to defy a legal dept like that.. a lot of members were just annoyed that in addition to deleting the offending diagram and internal info, they nuked everything he had contributed over the few years he had been bringing awareness to the engine failures. Probably lost 5 or 6 threads with hundreds of pages of info. Pictures of the engine internals as shown above, itemized short block replacement costs, his spreadsheet tracking the engine failures, etc. But I understand why the mods did that.

I wish I had some of it saved, there was lots of interesting stuff. This was back before the recalls and as the failures started happening people didn't want to or chose not to believe it. Lots of those threads had hundreds of posts just arguing and nothing of interest was lost though. People got so heated. I do remember seeing some interesting stuff like posts from the Middle East with blown engines, and LS500s with bearing issues years before the Tundra started using the engine.
The mods made it clear it was either clean up ALL of it or potentially lose the forum. Toyota’s lawyers were not playing around.

So manufacturers do in fact have representatives browsing message boards. Or at least Toyota does.
Yeah, and dude who got banned posted proprietary Toyota documents that they wanted to retain sole control of. So those docs and all discussion regarding said docs was completely deleted at Toyota’s request.

It was one of those “we’re not really asking” things.

How are they “modstapos” if Toyota sent a C&D and asked them to delete that info?

(I use “ask” lightly…)

Do you think they instead should have defied a multibillion dollar international corporation’s legal team?
They delete a lot over there. I had the engine clearances posted and they deleted them. It is nuts.

They are available to anyone with a TIS subscription. I understand the technical rules of the TIS site, and you are not supposed to share (so others pay to do their own repairs), but what he was posted were simple diagrams and tsbs. Toyota used it as an excuse to get Ryan off the site because he was making them look bad. Their reaction makes Toyota look a lot worse imo.

Instead of removing Ryan's posts, they nuked everything and continue to delete a lot.

I don’t disagree.

It’s understandable when you realize they’re erring on the side of caution rather than potentially running afoul of a massive global corporation’s legal team.

Yeah, but they keep nuking info that is not copyrighted. It is frustrating as a consumer trying to get information and well as sharing non-copyright info that gets nuked.

Yeah, there’s a small group of easily offended owners who chimp out when they don’t like people being critical of Toyota, and it gets nuked or locked.

Pretty much all the info from Toyota that is allowed is in the first post of this thread, which is updated as new info comes out.

Looking at some comments on some Youtube videos and it seems people think Toyota removed lead from the bearings because of environmental concerns.

Higher lead content allows for debris to embed and not wipe out or ‘spin’ the bearing.

Add that to my other theories.

From what I have read about the WS transmission fluid I tend to believe those comments on the lead removal.

Interesting information. Appreciate the knowledge everyone.

Nice guy and another nice video

Interesting fact the gx460 uses 0W20 and no engine issues whatsoever..realizing its probably not under the loads of the v35A - naturally aspirated vs turbo
.. yet the lx600 and LX7 have issues. Has to be design flaw and improper oil.. The manual mentions using 5W20 but reverts back to 0W20

Im looking to trade mine in for a 2023 wit low miles as a backup. The lx cannot be trusted

To confirm the oil pump adjusts. I just put in a light 40w and it certainly pegged the oil pressure up real high when it caught. Stayed there a moment, settled some, and I shut it off after around 30 seconds.

When I restarted it it was higher than what I remember being normal. Seems a little past mid mark. I’ll check it out again tomorrow maybe take a photo.

But yeah it surprised it. Gave a little shake but that might have been the oil filter pressure catching.

I also changed the transfercase fluid.

Edit My garage is 70 degrees. So the oil viscosity is what it should be, pretty normal range. The car and oil have been in there a few days.

Time will tell on the LX.

I would just get a GX because it is extremely well sorted. At least the 2012 I had time with, was a female friend and I should have bought it from her before she traded it 🤪
