Ok short run down 86 4runner 22re. sat 6 years aprox. replaced fuel filter. plugs wire cap rotor,. did all this because number 2 and 3 wernt doing there job its running on number 1 and 4. i can unhook 2 and 3 plug wires motor dont change a beat. Pulled plugs out there soaked in gas. checked plug wires for spark got shocked. spark confirmed.
heres a link to vid of motor running and two plug wires unhooked. I found one of the injector splices in the harness conection was nice clean and copper no corosion so i figure the other splice should look the same. couldnt find the second one. but i havent took the upper intake off yet,. Would throtle position sensor cause my issues . :bang::whoops::mad::mad:

checked compression all pistons got 75 on first full revolution and 150 on the third rev of motor on compression teser. they were maybe 2 to 4 psi off each other . It has 10 fresh gallons of gas. seafoam in the tank. Need ideas sugestions

could the modual on the coil be bad and not be leting the number 2 and 3 plug fire in the right order in turn causeing them to get fouled out with gas?

The first thing I could say is check to make sure you have the wires on the cap in the right places, not trying to be rude I have done this and the guy who helped me build my motor (30+ yrs in an auto shop) did it when we were putting the motor back in.

Second, you said you have sea foam in the tank. I regularly do Air Induction service on my 22RE. It helps by cleaning all the carbon and junk out of the intake and cylinders. With it sitting for so many years it wouldn't be a bad idea to do this. I just use sea foam. The best way to do it is disconnect a vacuum line that goes into the throttle body (leave the end connected to the throttle body) with the other end of the hose stick it in the bottle. It should suck the sea foam into the throttle. Be careful doing this, a little at a time. The first time I did this it sucked the whole bottle dry in 10 seconds. You will need to keep a hand on the throttle and rev it when tries to die. I'd had have a buddy/wife help you with this.

*** This will cause your truck to smoke like crazy ***
The reason its smoking so bad is it is burning off the built up carbon inside the engine.

You might want to find a open space to do it. After you do it, you also need to change the oil. All the carbon and other goodies that didn't burn off will fall into your oil pan.

Third,

Check all of your emission control parts ie; cat, o2 sensor, things of that nature. If that isn't working right it could cause your engine to run like crap.

Can you hook up 2&3 then drop 1&4? If it runs under those conditions I'd look for some kind of air obstruction. Maybe something nesting in the tailpipe?

I had an 87 4Runner that had similar issues and it ended up being broken fuel injector wires inside the harness. One of the bends in the harness about a foot down the harness from the injector plug was just brittle and broke the wired inside.

if i unhook 1 and 4 motor stalls out. Think im gonna remove upper intake. soak the injectors with pb blaster let it soak in remove them move 1 and 4 to 2 and 3 and vise vers to see if the problem still there. then next step is send the injectors to witch hunter i guess,.

I think you're wasting your time with the soaking step. That won't really clean them out. Send them in.

the soaking part is to help lube them up befor i remove them ;)

I've been through this before, couple of suggestions-

- check the wire harness, if I remember correctly the injectors are paired up, 1&4 2&3 but all fire at the same time. I would dive into the harness to check for poor connections, there are brass crimps that splice the injector plugs into the rest of the harness, the way the injectors fire is when the ECU receives an RPM signal from the igniter it will send a ground to the injectors, which will allow them to pulse, all four injector are powered constantly, it's the ground signal that causes them to open and squirt fuel. If you don't already get the correct FSM for your truck, in the back is a wiring diagram, it will help you chase down the fault wires.

- remove your injectors and send them to mrinjector.com, he charges $15.00 per injector, he will test prior to the cleaning then again afterwards and send you a report, all this is done within a week.

- noid lights did not work for my truck, a 9volt battery momentarily on the contacts indicated what injectors were good, just don't let the voltage stay content or you will burn out the coil in the injector.

Good luck!

I will emphasis this. I have my engine harness completely out, so the other day I soaked it down with SuperClean and gave it a good rinse. I figured I better check these splices out now, so today I carefully started peeling off gray tape. Found several splices, they all looked a little crusty but functional. Then I finally found the big 4-into-2 splice for the injectors, this is what I found:

I'm not sure how my engine was still running! This splice is just inboard (engine side) of the connector for the AC compressor, you can see that connector in my first photo. Peel your harness open and check it out!

Actually they are $16 per injector. I mailed mine in on Monday, I got an email from them yesterday afternoon that they are on the way back to me now, I should have them tomorrow.

looks like im gonna remove up[per intake. i had found one the splices other day but couldnt find the second. guesing it up in the intake. thanks for the help i didnt no 2 and 3 injectors were conected together
