It’s not going to have a solid front axle.
The comment was mostly in jest, I dont think we are going to see a solid front axle. That picture does seem interesting in that the GX appears to have no similar parts behind the front suspension, the first thing I thought of when I saw that was the GM torsion bar suspension (but I can’t see Toyota ditching the coils for something like that). Or its an artifact of a s***ty render for the teaser

It's just the angle of the picture. The camera is low. I think it is simply the transmission and center diff.

This is a bus I could learn to live with...and what a gorgeous color red! Bravo.

I’ll never forgive Toyota for not bringing the 300 here. I understand why, but I still won’t forgive them. I don’t even consider the lx600 a Land Cruiser with its really obnoxious front grill and large wheels. Perhaps the Prado is a good replacement we shall see!

Full time 4wd for one, my favorite feature. Very handy to have in places that have rugged winters.

Fully disqualifying feature.

What a flipping waste

I live in one of the ugliest winter regions in the country on a hill from hell and rarely put it into 4.....99.5% of my snow driving is in RWD

Idk about that. I feel much better and confident on the icy and snow packed roads being in full time 4wd. Regardless of your anecdotal situation Awd is much better than RWD in these scenarios and I’m glad to have it

The Limited trim 4Runner has a lockable Torsen center diff, just like the Land Cruiser. I wish they had kept that for the other trims, like the 4th Gen.

No its not.....not even a little.

AWD is a disaster in a slide in snow/ice and the vehicles we see off the road in winter are almost exclusively AWD vehicles

Its tempting to buy the last MY of the Gen5 4Runner before Toyota ****s that offering up

Totally disagree from having owned multiple RWD, 4WD, AWD, and FWD vehicles. AWD (Subaru or AWD Toyota) performance in snow, rain, ice, and gravel/dirt is vastly superior to FWD or RWD. Having a AWD system on my GX is huge, I also love that it can be operated in 4LO on pavement without the center differential locked.

AWD w/4WD lock > AWD > 4WD > FWD > RWD in snow/ice/dirt/gravel.

AWD w/4WD lock > AWD > 4WD > FWD > RWD in snow/ice/dirt/gravel.

Everyone has opinions and is entitled to them

I live in some of the ugliest winter conditions in the US and the AWD vehicles are almost universally the ones off the road in the ditch

Having the option for 4WD when needed saves huge amounts of fuel not to mention wear and tear on drive line and permits the driver to choose based on conditions

Exactly right. I bought the 4R Limited for that exact reason. Exchanging the plastic was worth the hassle just to have it.
