This thread is perplexing with all the POVs being expressed. Sounds like a battle of first world problems...
I’d venture to say it’s devolved into an autistic screechfest about 70 series, diesels, Broncos, Wranglers, manufacturing/marketing, and now AWD vs RWD.
Y’all need a containment zone or Jesus. Pick one.

Reason #8,675,309 for how awful social media is:

“everyone is an expert with an opinion.”

“My sources in Plano said…”

“I heard that…”

“I banged the Chief Engineer’s wife and she said that…”

“I once drove a Land Cruiser when I was 13 and …”

“I’ve ordered a Land Cruiser part before and I’m a LC parts expert…”

“I’m best buddies with —insert member of LC community here— and he said that…”

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Can I get an AMEN!!!

If it weren't for threads like this - would there be any interest in Toyota left? Toyota took more than a decade off from doing almost anything interesting. What else would we talk about? How bold Toyota was in combining a hood scoop with a Limtied trim front clip on the new 4Runner Sport? Are the new Dunlop Grandtrek touring tires going to be as good in the mud as the old ones?

Last I checked this was a thread about GX550 speculation and, by extension, the LC250.
But what we got stuck with has been 10+ pages of people sperging out about compete nonsense that is irrelevant to the topic at hand.
YMMV…

When you have a career that involves far too many teams calls, what else is there to do that can be done to keep the work day tolerable?

Not sure why a bunch of folks arguing on the internet is going to really change their minds.

Mods should change this thread to the "musings of a bunch of misanthropic luddites arguing why a publicly traded company continues to hurt my feelings"

Wow, you really opened my eyes. People complaining about cars on a forum is so empty and trite. But complaining about people complaining about cars on a forum is next level. The third world really owes you for what you are doing for them.

It was a combined thread from a few others - including speculation about a new North America land cruiser model. Obviously a lot of new information has changed the discussion since the early speculation that there would be a hardcore off-road heritage type model. That does not appear to be the case unless it comes under the 4Runner nameplate or Toyota builds something new. But that information isn't where the thread started. The discussion of whether it makes sense for Toyota to compete in a very popular segment is probably better for a different thread now that we know what is coming and it's pretty clearly not that.

A re-skinned LC300 is surely a fine product. We pretty much know everything about the GX550 other than price. So, there's not much to talk about in that respect. The LC was still mostly unknown until a few days ago. At this point, probably the only discussion worth having if we're limiting it to speculation on the new LC is what engine it'll have and whether it'll come with OEM 32 inch Dunlop Grandtrek or Goodyear Adventures. Or maybe Toyota will commit to retro theme by tossing on some Bridgestone Dueler HTs.

The question of why Toyota chose to make 2 nearly identical SUVs and also chose not to enter the enthusiast 4x4 market with this round of new products is a much more interesting discussion to me.

Toyota has the Pathfinder series that will probably be more overland/off-road crowd.

The Overtail naming was a poor oversight by the marketing department IMO.

Has the Lexus variant of a Toyota truck ever had a different engine/drivetrain than the Toyota counterpart? As far as I know lx and gx have always been the same as the lc and lcprado

Why are we thinking this would be any different than the gx550?

Seems like all we are waiting on is the different bumper than the gx550

Aussi article says new LC will have 4 cylinder engine not 6...

I genuinely hope that’s for non-US versions. We usually get bigger engine offerings here, so fingers crossed!

Please alert me when a solid front axle shows up.

If not, please observe the do not disturb placard hanging on the door.

Quick answer …pretty much always different between the LC Prado and the GX

Never a gas V8 in any Prado models I can think of. Closest same would have been the 1GR-FE 4.0L V6 used as petrol option in some markets for the Land Cruiser Prado and the roughly 2012-2017 Chinese market GX 400 after the 1UR-FE was dropped there.

On LC… The 1UR-FE (4.6L) has been used in numerous other markets as the petrol motor option for the 200 series while it was only ever 3UR-FE in North America for example.

Not to mention all diesel options available for the 120/150/200 series that weren’t available in North America.

Sort of? The 5th Gen 4Runner and GX460 are cousins, riding on the same frame but with different bodies. The 4Runner uses the 4.0 V6 and ancient 5-speed. The GX460 uses the V8 and old 6-speed.

Thought the ME 200 got the 3UR as well?

Since the LX600’s TTV6 comes with 409hp/479tq….GX will have 349hp/480tq…

Are these the same motors that a tune could bring the GXs HP up…?

Good question. Of course the next question would be whether the rest of the drivetrain is the same. If not, then increasing the engine performance might result in breaking other driveline components.

For me, 350 hp is more than enough. I would rather have less hp and better economy, but that’s just me.

It did.. I was just referencing the fact that not all markets have even gotten the same motors between the same model.

IIRC... 1UR-FE was used in 200 series in Japan and Australia... although the latter are probably mostly diesel powerplants
