Factory transmission cooler parts are slowly trickling in. Who would have thought, the part that needed to travel the furthest (UAE) arrived first?

Nice!
is there a list of parts needed somewhere?

Here is all you need!

A few updates from the weekend.

I installed my second AGM battery, wired up the NOCO trickle charger and started my scene lighting installation.

The NOCO trickle charger will keep both batteries topped up and since the alternator won’t fully charge the start battery it‘ll take care of that. In the field I can connect my portable solar panel to either battery for charging. Eventually I’ll install my 100 watt Renogy fixed panel to my roof rack for dedicated charging to the house battery and use the portable panel as needed for type of trip. For instance at a base camp event like Expo or Northwest Overland Rally I’ll be able to charge up to 220 watts.

The batteries are Northstar from the group buy this spring, both are group 24F, 78 amp hour reserve (stock is 65) and 310 more CCA.

I realize most people will think scene lights are OAF but I ski all winter long and the sun doesn’t show till about 7:30 so they are necessary to me for dawn patrol. Especially if the resort I’m skiing at doesn’t allow ski bum camping and I need to camp down the road, extra time to prep.

The scene light bracket are repurposed from my Taco but this time around I had them powder coated. They are fabricated from 15-5 .050” CRES. I fabricated my own as the Rigid scene lights were to long to fit anything Front Runner offered.

I located and drilled a few holes in the roof rack to run wiring in the channels. I still need to complete the wiring to the sPOD but now that they are located that’ll be a fairly easy task.

I like the Noco charger port placement. Which model did you buy?

The Genius 2 mini.

On my Taco I had the National Luna dual battery system and no charger and was replacing batteries every couple years due to improper charging. Not going to happen on this build! Between the NOCO and the Redarc BCDC the batteries will always be properly topped up.

Why won't your alternator charge both batteries?

It does, it just wont charge to 14.6 volts. AGM batteries require higher voltage to fully charge. The stock alternator will only charge to around 13.8 and slowly decreases after start. I have a Redarc BCDC topping off the house battery at all times while running and soon by a fixed solar panel, but while sitting their is parasitic drain from USB ports and other items. When parked in the garage the solar panel wont help the house battery.

This is not a daily driver, even more important to keep it topped up.

Suspension is on order, supposedly takes three weeks to build the shocks from Radflo. I‘m ok with this but with all the restrictions in limited travel I’m guessing this will stretch the time line.

Trail/TRD Off Road KDSS Full Articulation Kit - Resivoir Front - $3,023.00 : Sonoran Steel Fabrication LLC, Toyota Truck Parts

I went with Sonoran Steel for a few reasons.

1) I’ve know Steve for a few years. Helped out with my Taco suspension build and my daughters 4Runner.

2) One of two companies that would talk with me about spring rates and valving the shocks as needed for the rates. A few of the big name guys wouldn’t even respond to email.

3) The trac bar/pan hard bar is the only one on the market built to work with KDSS. I’ve read in several places that the kit being sold for GX 460/4Runner don‘t work with KDSS and the trac bar makes contact at full droop and compression.

After having to reconfigure my Taco rear suspension twice and front coil shock combo three times I wanted to get it right the first time.
How did this suspension work out for you? I don't think I've seen any other builds on this site with a new trac/panhard bar. Any benefits you've seen?

I am extremely happy, smooth on and offroad, soaks up big bumps, caries full camping load out (7230 lbs) without sag. The trac/panhard rod has no contact issues at all when flexed to extremes. I have read that other brands had issues at full suspension flex and that is the reason for going this direction.

Couldn't be happier!

where did you decide to run your wire inside the truck?

I haven't yet. All the roof rack lighting wiring I plan to run down the back door hinge area. Route it under the truck to the sPOD module under the hood. Stand by, it'll be a a month before I can get back to it.

Lots of travel coming up!!

I read through this twice now, lots learned. I look forward to seeing what you end up doing

Driving various vehicles in a variety of terrain makes you a better trainer and builder. The past two weeks have been in new and old Land Rovers.
