+1 on the Burr Trail. The road from Escalante out to Hole in the Rock and back is also worth the trip with lots of great side trails and scenery.

I finally got the mini truck running do Id really like to get in on this one. Ill have to see if I can do the full deal or just the weekend.

Looks like I can do the full thing so count me in...as long as my truck keeps working.

Very cool! The weekend will be great, the entire trip will be Epic.

I noticed you all planning this trip. I had started planning one of my own but I will be starting when you guys are ending. I'm trying to put together a trip from Colorado Springs with Colorado Land Cruisers club. I have done some research but will look into some of the places you all have identified.

Last year a buddy and I took our families out and ran the Kokopellis trail. What an epic trip we had.

I bring this up as I was wondering what the level of difficulty will be, I am sure it will vary. Is there anything comparable to Rose Garden Hill? Going down that with my trailer was about my limit. Are any of the trails we could get a fully stock '86 4runner through? Are there bypasses available? I realize that it is trail dependent but any help would be great, even knowing what trails to avoid would be useful. Haven't decided if I will let my son take that 4Runner. Sorry for the hi-jack, maybe we can move this to a new thread if needed. Thanks.

CO_Hunter,

Did the Swell trip last spring with the BCC and the Kokopelli last fall. If you got a trailer down Rose Garden Hill you should have no problems with the swell. Alot of the swell is not to technical but there are a couple of trails (Devils Racetrack, Fix It Pass) that I can think of that are tougher. A stock 4 runner would probably not have a lot of fun on those 2 trails.

Thanks, just was I was looking for.

Wheelin' in the Swell and then off to go dirtbiking in Thailand. Is it March yet? Are we there yet?

I think I'm going to bring my CRF down on my MX Hauler just to tool around camp while we're there. Anyone else bringing a bike to camp?

That's awesome. I'd bring my KLR if I was only coming for the weekend. Did you decide if you are going to ship your bike?

I'm not shipping it. The expense was a little silly to begin ith vs. renting a bike in country, but the red tape and risk of getting there with no bike at all deterred me. I can rent a Kawasaki KLX250 S/SF (Dual Purpose/SuperMoto) for about $40 for the week. The Sumo setup sounds fun. :D Oh and they are fuel injected there too.

This is going to be my first time on this epic adventure and I have a few questions. What kind of weather is possible at the time we are going? If you had a choice of an RTT or a ground tent, which would you bring or would you pack both? I'm coming from San Diego and planning to stop in Zion before meeting up with everyone in Moab. Thanks in advance and looking forward to this trip. Bob.

I'm not a local, but in my few visits to this part of UT during this time of the year, I have encountered snow, crazy cold with strong winds, all the way to 90 degrees and everything in between. I will wear flip flops the whole time, but my feet will be coated in plastidip, so I will be fine. I think you will be fine with your RTT for this trip...if I remember right, you could set up and tear down pretty quickly.

Chris, I've got a can of Plasti-dip that has hardened that I will bring. We can heat it up and make Plasti- dip 'Smores on the first night so we don't have to share with anyone. I'm seriously hoping that Craig and I can meet up with you guys somewhere close to Blannding early in the week. We have both taken the entire week and the following Monday off from work.

Chris hit the nail on the head. Weather can be anything and its pointless to try to "plan" for good times. As I type this it's 50 degrees in grand junction. It could just as easily be 15 in a week. It will be a rain or shine event. The only part that I have a concern about is going ofer Elk Ridge. There is a very real chance that it could still be snow covered. It won't be a deal breaker and we can easily go around the mountains but might provide some adventure. Expect it to get COLD at night regardless of daytime temp.

Bonnie and I are out. Headed to Phoenix on the 16th, then on to the Mohave and Joshua Tree before ending up with family in SoCal. Herding the Pig all the way. Hope to have the new seats in this weekend to add a bit of comfort.
Have fun!

Im going to try and make this as well. Im buying my cruiser this weekend and should give me enough time to do a once over and pack up the gear! im thinking ill drive in thursday and wheel friday saturday and sunday!
