Well it looks like I am back in the game. My schedule got bumped around and I will now be departing for Thailand the following weekend. Count me in!!

Woah. Nice. How many days do you think you'll make it?

I'm hoping to take a half day Friday and get into camp at a decent time. Then wheel Saturday and Sunday and roll home Sunday evening.

I've been through Lockhart twice, most recently last year and it was nearly just a dirt road compared to 4 years ago....it was pretty clear that they get the big machinery back there to maintain it....however, recent weather and timing can make it pretty tough....and fun.

We must be talking about two different trails and in fact there are two: Lockhart Basin and Lockhart Canyon. LB is much more difficult than LC. Note in the picture I posted above that my mirror is folded in. It is that tight! The northern portion of this trail is rated difficult by Chuck Wells while the southern portion is largely a dirt road with a few surprises here and there. Here is a photo of a section of the "road".

We were definitely in LB both years...I may have exaggerated the dirt road part....but it was much more technical a couple years ago when we were there....here is a pic of the AZ group starting down into LB. I believe that is how you would explain where we were....not a pic of my truck...I'm already down.

To make it clear to everyone, I am talking about the trail known as Lockhart Basin which is rated a 3-4 by Trail Damage. It is trail number 49 in the Wells book and the trail damage site can be found in the link below.

We will be driving from highway 211 to the north.

awesome! Will be great to have you along. I found this video of Lockhart. Looks like it will be a tough one for the camper. I think I can pick out the spot where you were off the edge with the 2 straps attached to your truck Ace.

A couple tight switchbacks that concern me. I need to add a few recovery points to the camper.

I might do a long day/2 day Prerun in late Feb early March to check it out.

Trail Damage's description fits what I saw in May 2010 pretty well. Then I gave it a rating of 7+ (out of 10). It appears that it has been graded based on Bluecruisers report. It must have been a big Cat as I recall squeezing between rock walls and boulders bigger than my FJ. Oh well, nothing stays the same for long.

We're in too!

Hey guys,
Bumblebee's been repaired :bang::bang: and ready to buzzzz! Does anyone know if you need a locker for this run? Just trying to time when I get the rear locker installed...
Ciao,
Jim

There will a few places where it would be nice to have but really not needed. You should be able to "buzz" through.

I just edited this as I had left out the important word "not".

I just realized Easter Jeep Safari is the same weekend. Doh ! I'll be out in Moab showing trailers but I'll do my best to check your itinerary and meet up somewhere in UT. Pretty bummed I can't join along the entire route !

I've seen you around town a couple times in your bumblebee, I was in my big bumblebee. If you get stuck we will pull you out, were like the Marines "nobody gets left behind". :D

Are the 15 slots in Jonathan's post all we are allowing on this run or is there room for more? My buddy Cory (Who fixed up the FJ for me) is a fellow Toyota enthusiast and had expressed interest in possibly checking out the club and joining us on this run.

Bring him on. I think that's just a running tally in Matt's post. I don't have a preconceved limit in my mind. If for what ever reason it gets too big we can split up into multiple groups (I.e. medium difficulty and hard core). The first part of the trip looks like it will still be a pretty small group of 4-6 trucks which will be good for the flow.

Hoping we can come of we are still here!

Looking to join in for the weekend portion of the run. Planning on heading on down to Grand Staircase/Escalante area the week of the 25th and this would be a great way to start the trip.

I will be at the February meeting to show my face, meet the crew and pay my dues  Super excited! :bounce:

Bitchin trip! I have done all those sections you will be taking except the very first part. You all will love it! I hope to swing into the swell portion and join you'll for a couple beers at Lone warrior. Great camp!

I'm looking forward to this trip. Plan on driving out from San Diego on either Sun/Mon with Bob and spending a night or two in Zion and then meeting up with some in Moab for the drive to San Rafel Swell and then driving back to San Diego on the following Monday.

Attached is the .kmz google earth route that will take us from San Diego --> Zion--> Bryce Canyon --> Moab. None of this is really off-road, but if anyone has a better route from Bryce Canyon to Moab, please let me know.

I'm really looking forward to this epic trip!

Craig
