I think you can add ranch hand and Galen to the list. Been in offline discussions with both.

So it looks like my Thailand trip is pretty well set in stone so I'll be missing out on the Swell this year. A bit bummed out, the FJ will have some new toys and I'll be itching to get out and wheel! On an unrelated note I am tempted to crate up my CRF and ship it to Thailand. I could rent a bike there for pennies and shipping my bike would not be cheap... but it would be freakin sweet to be riding my own bike on another continent!

Ryan, sounds like a neat trip. Get lots of photos.

Well I think we a have a pretty epic trip lined up so far. In discussions with others and perusing over the other maps I think we have a good idea of a general schedule. Details of camp spots, trail runs etc will come out as we get there. Your input is wanted and welcome.

Monday March 18: Meet at TBD camp site west of Blanding.

Tuesday March 19: Depart camp and drive Elk Ridge and Beef Basin Camp near Lockhart.

Wednesday March 20: Drive Lockhart, Chicken Corners and Hurrah Pass to Moab. Camp near Spring Bottom/Dubinkey Well off of highway 313. Dinner in Moab if time permits.

Thursday March 21: Head north from Dubinkey exploring White Wash and work towards Green River. Potential Stop at the White Sand's Missile site. Cross the green River and look for camp.

Friday March 22: Drive south on the San Rafael Road exploring the area as we go. Stop in Goblin Valley for a few hours. Enter the Swell from Temple Mountain and drive to camp at Lone Warrior.

Saturday March 23: Loop run through the swell. Let's change it up a bit from last year but my vote would be to stay in the northern swell area. Matts Pot Luck extravaganga on Saturday Night.

Sunday March 24: Drive Black Dragon Canyon to Green River. Lunch and goodbyes at Ray's Tavern!

Epic enough for ya? The beautiful thing about this is that individuals can meet up at any time through the trip at each day's start is pretty near a major road or town.

Yes, that sounds like an excellent plan! Excited already.

For a campsite near Green River there is a nice primitive BLM campground right on the east river bank about three miles upstream from the town. Probably near m/t that time of year and was free at my last visit.

I'm pretty sure I want in. That weekend should work for me. I heard the swell is amazing.

Mike

So finally we get to see your trailer. ; )
I found a trailer in October and made lots of changes and it's a lot like the Ruger trailer. The swell is ideal for hauling a small trailer. RTT not installed in this photo.

Sounds like an awesome plan! I will be going for the whole trip, confirmed the time off from work!! Can't wait!! May have one of the chefs from Element 47 in Aspen, CO. joining our run, so the food should be outstanding!! Roof rack showed up yesterday and going to pick up the roof top tent next weekend in Denver at the ISE show. :wrench::wrench:Then it's button up the OBA, install the custom Aux. fuel tank, find a decent fridge/freezer for the food storage and I should be ready to roll. :steer:

Mike (Ruger Trailers) Any demo trailers to rent for the week?:D Need extra space for kitchen and dinning setups.

As long as I get my jeep put back together by the trip haha. This cold weather isn't helping my motivation. :wrench:

I saw some pics of your trailer on FB. Looks like your having some fun getting it ready for the dirt. I'm hoping to get a new tent and trailer soon...we will see if I have time.

Those pictures everyone posted from last trip made the decision easy.

Had a brief discussion with Jonathan regarding pulling a trailer through Lockhart Basin. It probably would be the most difficult section of the entire Swell trip as outlined above. I did Lockhart two years ago and considered the northern part one of the more difficult trails I've done (had a near roll over in there). Thomas Dawson was with me pulling his GI trailer and more than once I thought he was going to flip it but he actually got through with little trouble. We will be going south to north which should be easier than the reverse. My call is small trailers with lots of clearance will be OK. Jonathan's Adrenilan would be the maximum and will hang up in a few spots but with some strapping and stacking will get through. I think we may find some tight spots in Beef Basin too, but I have not been there in five years, so who knows now. Probably will find some difficult spots in the Swell too depending on final route. Bottom line is I will take my trailer and try to roll with the punches. Oops, bad cliche. Don't want to roll. ;-)

Photo shot at the near roll, the rock under my slider saved me.

Few more shots in Lockhart. The one of what looks like a scrap pile is an airplane wreck that is a short hike off the trail. Four of the photos I just posted are by Thomas Dawson. The wreck is mine, poor quality on my old cell phone.

I'am in the same situation, won't be able to leave Cedaredge till 4:30 will barely get there by dark thirty. :frown:

I anticipate a lot of folks won't make it till Friday night. Hopefully Lone Warrior is vacant as it was last year. There is room for 30-40 people so we should be good to go. I think we will be rolling in early afternoon if all goes well.

Ace, those pics make me excited to take my trailer on Lockhart... Eeeek!
