This one's even better :)

In videos like this-I have to wonder if there is a winch point up trail. If you had your winch pulled and used it along with crawl, I think you could basically drag your truck up over obstacles like this. This guys gets into trouble by sliding sideways.

I'd be willing to pre-run the trail in a SXS (I'm sure I can rent one in the area), and see what I think of a 200 in the space.

I know the 200 series is not a rock-crawler, but the historic part of doing that trail is very compelling to me. I like the thought of breaking new ground-doing something with the truck that hasn't been done.

Are there risks? Hell yes. Possibly body damage? Yep. Can it be done? I think so, after pouring over the videos and knowing what our trucks can do.

I'd probably throw on 35's for the trip. The more people say it can't be done... the more I want to do it.
It was actually my first choice but CA is far for the east coasters.... I would like to do it as well sometime in the future.

totally agree with everything ya said here! I have been watching videos also, stock ford rangers, stock 4 door jeeps, stock fjcruisers, disco's etc etc etc... Is the 200 a built rock crawler, nope, neither is the Tacoma, neither is the 4Runner etc etc... I ran a small part of the trail and got a taste for it, yep, it's going to be difficult, yep people will take some damage. People took damage on Black Bear pass, we all got some scars doing Moab, it's part of the game and frankly part of the excitement. If we put a 200 series crew together to tackle this trail you can count me in. I don't want this to interfere with the regular get together so we would need to plan a different time to run the trail. And like ya said we should proly pre run the trail and do our research first.

Hmmm... Maybe I need to look at some more video. If it IS doable with only minor damage, I'd love to go.
I'm especially interested in Toyota's 4Runner trip. The damage I saw was to the lower door panel--but they didn't have sliders.

@kreiten how about posting a couple links to those videos you found.

Well I'm sure your choice is awesome Cody! I have no doubts. Sorry to hijack your thread, I just got all Rubicon crazy. I want to be able to rock a "Rubicon" sticker on my rig!

This one isn't bad.

Absolutely brutal. At about 5:00 at that obstacle where they are basically teetering and the 2nd guy has two winch lines on his truck and then it sounds like something snaps... Damn.

I'm still doing it.

Everything you'd ever want to see on the Rubicon is right here I think... and some great trucks to watch. 2 40's, a Rubicon and a nice Diesel LC.

I haven't watched all of them, but the first 3 were great.

I'll fly out and ride/spot/take pics when this comes together!!

Only let me include 2... view these and there are a total of 6 on Youtube.

Man, that white diesel 60 is amazing! It sounds like it's basically at idle through nearly every obstacle...and just keeps rolling. Great videos!

Good find Steen!

That white 60 series is the perfect setup for the trail. That guy is a damned good driver, too. His wheel placement is impressive. The 40's were pretty sweet and seemed to handle it well. From all the videos, ground clearance appears to be the 200's biggest achilles heel. I would probably trailer out some big tires and wheels to throw on right at the trailhead.

I'm thinking some 285/75/R18's would work!

The guy in the red 40 had really good skills I thought too.

The only problem with bringing big tires is that you'd then also have to install the KDSS bracket and bump stops before you go?

I agree that ground clearance is the biggest challenge. I would definitely get the skids before I tried that... but I do have a 40 so will probably just take that.

For this attempt, I would basically want ALL the remaining performance items on my wish list...
35's/Gears/Rear locker, front bumper/winch, rear bumper/tire/triple fuel.

That list is about $14,000.

Savin me small-budget pennies...

Oh, and then there's roof rack, lights, fridge & a few other doodads... Another $4k or so...

Ya, skids. Heck, my skids got dinged up just coming down the back side loop from Top of the World...

My hearts wants to do this...but my head is sayin "you crazy". I think I am with Steen- whenever you all go for this...- I'll hold someone's beer and watch...and spot...and GoPro it.

I know there are sections we would do fine on- unless there are bypasses on the others- it would be a long trail.

I'm in

(I think)

Coincidentally our destination has 200 structures on the National Register of Historic Places...

You're killing me smalls

I hear Detroit is great in August- and they love Toyota. The night run challenges will need speed a maybe a bit more armor- I'm in.
