I have not been there in a few years not sure how much the trail has changed. I would not go on them without sliders in an 80. If you took your time with a ton of stacking and spotting you might be able to make it through clean. Most likely your rocker panels will get hammered.

Ok, I'm in on this run.

I've never heard of the place. Is it in that stripmall? I gooled maped it but the picture from the street view was blury.

LMFAO! Yeah it is! Corner of 19th and Harbor.

We can go somewhere else too, im down there all the time.

No sliders is a big no no for sure and you will really piss off a bunch of Jeepers. Both trails are much harder than a few years ago. Probable damage on Doran even with 33's, locked and lifted.

So, if by chance we do decide to run Odessa and Doran, how doable is it in an 80 without sliders? I have no problems running difficult trails, but I'm not into needless carnage just to say I ran such and such trail.

I have never been up there. What other challenges or interesting things are there (beside the "ghost town" )

just slap on your running boards and it'll get you through. :D:D

I heard the stock running boards get you through Gate keeper like a skateboard :D

All joking aside.. I wouldn't run through either Doran or Odessa without sliders with 255's. You'll tap the rocker for sure at least once.

oh yeah....that's coming from experience. :D

Damn it was windy

Well about 4 of us stayed until uand looked for you guys up mule canyon. No luck and the wind was terrible. The freeway was stopped for a bit as we headed out today. Did see a few caged toys out there. We tried coming down doran and odessa but with a stock fj cruier and made it down a bit on both but found ourself turing around and going back up. I don't think I would have taken my 80 down a few sections that we walked. In fact several of our group that had run them before thought they looked much worse in a few sections. Mojave trail was great, but needed to spend more time on it.

Carnage

Calico turned out to be a good time. Green as I have ever seen it. I'll post up some pics later tonight. On Saturday we were looking for a campsite I had found last year. Nikos with the white Jeep went a head of us, the trail was steep and his axle gave out then his ball joint. After rounding up parts and tools we got it back together at 1:30 in the morning.

Here is the link to the thread.

Between all the MJR guys they came up with a press, ball joints, an axle and air tools. You can't see it in the previous photo's but he's pulling a heavy Adventure Trailer.

Weird, i never even felt my AT trailer behind me. He's not even on a tough obstacle is he?

Just bad luck i guess. Poor guy. Glad they got him fixed up and back on the road.

Dave- The picture gives you absolutely no feel for how steep the incline was, how loose the rocks were and we moved a big rock out of the way of the trailer. The resistance from everything and older ball joints all lead to the failure. Normally he drives the jeep like the trailer does not exist.:)
