did you try holding the info button in and turning on and off the headlights three times with car running?
it will tell you if something is unplugged or not.

I did this, and didn't see any codes or anything that looked amiss. the service code menu all came back ok.

OK, after driving around with about 5 starts I finally caught it when it was working. It came back with "00" and I hit the R/F button and it proceeded to cycle through the variations. Eventually I figured out it was in a loop so I hit OFF to stop it.

So I take it this means no DTCs?

Yes, 00 = normal

I am also getting the "Check the connection of the Air Conditioner" error along with other MFD errors. I press the AUTO & RECIRC buttons several times (for up to 2 minutes) & I get no codes. I did try the info & turn lights on 3X and like @tedzap, I did not see anything amis... I got this truck from my brother and supposedly he sent the MFD computer to Mr. Whizard and he was told the computer was fine, no pin 60 issues. Anything else I should try before it gets too hot here in Texas?

Replace the fuses to the air conditioner then turn on the rear air only. Drive about 30 miles and let everything reset. That's what I did a couple of years ago when mine stopped working. Never had a problem since then. These things heal themselves

Tried replacing fuses with new ones, nothing! My rear ac does not cool and I do not see compressor come on. I need to get some gauges to make sure the pressures are good

My brother told me he had sent the MFD computer to Board Medic and not Mr. Whizard.

How do I check the TX+ & TX- wires?

Thanks,

Hey guys, my first post here.
I’m stuck in Florida’s humidity during mid summer. Please help me! This OP’s post nails it closest for me. Here’s my situation:
I bought this sweet 2002 with navigation and a soundknob that does what it wants for $4400 dollars because it has no ac. The two button hold down and headlight flash isn’t giving me a wink of a clue, as in NOTHING happens... it’s not blowing cold at all and I’ve replaced the AC amplifier. Please help guys!

I am the original poster, and I spent a lot of months without heat/air. I finally fixed it, and will explain what and why so you can decide if this is something you want to try.

The Multi Function Display (MFD) is the screen in your dash, it has several connectors that plug into the back. On the 2004+ Landcruisers, the pin 60 of the biggest connector is prone to failure. The wire that is carried by pin 60 is the "network" wire, and if the network is broken then the A/C doesn't work. This is also the common problem on the Prius car, however, it wasn't common on Landcruisers older than 2004.

Here is a writeup on a DIY repair of pin 60 for the 2004 model landcruiser.

I found a shop that specializes in this repair for the Prius and the 2004+ Landcruisers. You can find them at AutyoByYours.com. When I contacted them they said "we don't fix 2003 and older MFD's because they are different".

So I came to the conclusion that the problem was with the MFD, but I was in uncharted water. I went in search of a replacement MFD, and found that even for 2003 there were several different screens used, you really need to pull your old one and read the numbers off to find an exact replacement.

I ended up getting this part number and calling up LKQ. I talked to Brian in Tennessee, and gave him my part numbers. He sent me the wrong part several times, but eventually I got the right one for $229. His number (in October 2017) was 931-461-8042.

I hate to just throw parts at a problem, but in this case the A/C has worked perfectly ever since.

In your shoes I would throw a couple hundred bucks at a new MFD and hope it works.

PS: My new screen came out of a LX470, because the splash screen says LEXUS instead of TOYOTA. The buttons are also slightly different as the recirculating air has ON-AUTO-OFF choices, where the original just had ON-OFF. Hitting the AUTO doesn't do anything now.
