I confirmed this week that with the added torque and horsepower with the turbo, I will need to upgrade the clutch on my rig. It slips in the higher gears (mostly 4th) at higher RPM's under WOT. Fortunately I took advantage of the black friday sales and ordered a heavy duty clutch kit. The parts are waiting in the shop. Will be a good spring/summer project once it warms up out there.

Granted, it could be that the existing clutch is coming to EOL at only 250,000 kms; - I don't know if the PO liked to ride it or what their driving habits were like. That said, I think the OEM clutch is just not up to the job of a turbo'd 1HZ.

So for anyone thinking of installing a turbo on their 1HZ, you may want to consider adding in a heavy duty clutch to the package, or keep it on the list as one of those near future projects afterwards if you don't want to swallow the full bill all at once.

Are you planning to beef up the transmission also?

Not at this point, but I am starting to research options for replacement that would work well with the 1HZ in the event that the ol' R151F does not like my driving habits... I am generally easy on my transmission, but if it does not like pulling my trailer around, I may look into grabbing a H55 and what is necessary to match it up....

Hello,

Get an H150F and do not look back.

@Gengis has a good write up of an H150 install into an HZJ76.

Hey Friends and Family...

Move is (mostly) completed, and once there I only moved in necessities so I could complete some reno's and not have all my stuff in the way. I took 2 weeks off work to replace the kitchen, build an office in the basement as well as some other finishing work in the basement and of course a lot of painting. I am also in the process of building a 12x14 shed in the back for all my seasonal stuff and gear, and not so often used tools so my garage will be relatively empty and usable.

Once the house and move is completely finished, I will be able to return some of my attention back to some planned changes on the cruiser. Speaking of the cruiser... it has been tremendously helpful in carting supplies and moving stuff with the trailer.

I have also been thinking about importing another Land Cruiser... am I CRAZY?? I am toying with the thought of a HDJ 100 series for carting the family around (with the 3rd row seats)...

While the 100 Series will no doubt be a nice addition, when compared to the 76 Series your “street creds” will take a bit of a hit. 😁

Well now, I have to take this seriously as you would know all about tainted street cred, being a self-professed LAND ROVER OWNER. :p 🤣

I think I can probably live with the small hit, my street cred in these parts is relatively robust. The 100 series would be my wife's vehicle, so my primary would still be the 76 series.

I also owned a Triumph so my “street creds” are beyond “tainted”.

How the move into the new house? Do you like it there?
The new place is coming along! I am down to installing trims and paint in the basement. Waiting for the new countertop for the kitchen (using the old one on the new cabinets for now). Just need to finish the doors up for the shed in the back for all my seasonal gear/supplies, Cruiser parts, etc:

Down the road, I want to pull a permit to extend the single garage to an oversized double with 12-14ft ceiling so I can get a lift. We will see...

I wish I could have a 12-14ft ceiling too! The shed is looking great wow! Glad you like it :) It's not easy to live in renovation I know what it's like

I had some time this weekend to work on some projects, got the shed done, and decided to start cleaning out the garage and did a couple of things on the Cruiser as well.

I needed to replace the old throttle control cable, so I got that looked after so now I can adjust a little more throttle when the engine is cold for warmups.

I was wrestling with whether or not to install spacers and there are some that swear by them and some that have had catastrophic nightmares with them. I finally bit the bullet and installed some. I put an 1-1/4" on the fronts, and 2" on the back and now the tires sit at the same width compared to the fender flares.

I used high strength threadlocker on the spacer nuts, then installed the summer tires and took it for a spin. I have to say I like the wider stance, it looks way better and I think I will feel a little more confident on the trails when things are a little off camber. The drive was good and smooth, though when there are ruts in the road//highway, the wheels want to follow them a little more, but that is why the skinny tires are so nice on these.

The wonderful thing is that despite a 4" lift and 35" tires, I can STILL get the Land Cruiser into the garage at the new house!!! W00T!! :bounce:

Psssst.... 🤫

I had a moment of weakness and ordered a kit I have wanted for a YEAR. After reading reviews and looking at specs where I could find them on various setups and brands of this particular upgrade I am looking at, I decided to go with a certain product from PDI in Ozzy-land...

Maybe it will be here by my birthday? 🤔

Any guesses....? 😯

Intercooler goodness? Love my PDI. Certainly dropped temps. HBD!

1st prize for Guyute! 🥳👌

Indeed, I ordered an intercooler kit for the 1HZ. It has been on my wishlist since installing the turbo. From their stats and testing, they seem to have the most refined and tested kit out there. I am especially impressed with the "under load" tests pre and post intercooler. Huge difference, which I am hoping for when I am pulling my trailer in the summer heat.

Do you have some experience with the pre and post cooler temps when you added yours? Approximately how much did it drop your temps on average after the install? I was told I need to get a dryer for it locally as they cannot ship it via air to me, which one did you go with if you recall? Any reason I cannot use the existing one once I move it out of the way?

Thanks!
