My stock 2001 LX 470 is very quiet. It is quieter than my GFs Lexus 2 door hardtop convertible (I think 350IC) with her hardtop up.

But, it is not as quiet as my sons 4 door Lexus sedan (idk his model number)

Mine is pretty damn quiet for a 4x4. It's quieter than my wife's 2016 Prius Three Touring and a lot quieter than my friends Jeep Rubicon

If I am completely honest, my
LC is actually not that quiet. Drivetrain and exhaust noise, transfer case whine when it's cold. Yeah. My Camry was whisper quiet. Maybe the exhaust is what you're hearing? These things can get loudish when the exhaust is worn.

How many miles is on yours?

I just did some research and found some comments from folks who own both the LS and the LX, they all said the same thing.... it's just loud, louder than the LS.

I've read about the ticking and high pitched noises. I experienced none of that, just a not so super smooth ride which I'm hoping is due to the tires. I may pull the trigger. Especially if he takes 9 or less!

It now has 96k. I was referring to the engine noise, but besides what I stated above, it is very quiet inside.

Well, think I'm going to pass on this one. I'm moving back to the states next week and saw one for $6,500. Black, and cleaner. No AHC, converted it already. Thing about that one though, it was a fleet vehicle, but got all of its service done up to 65K. One thing that's peculiar is the mileage. 160K... It had 117K on it in 2008, and has had two owners since then. When the current owner got it registered every year he had it exempted from odometer readings by getting it registered in some strange county I've never heard of. Sooooo I'm kinda thinking that ain't the true mileage. And why so cheap?! Fishy as ever.

He also said it was fully loaded, it's a 2000 with no Nav, and no Mark Levinson.... were those options offered that year? If so, that ain't exactly fully loaded.

My LX 470 has true miles verified by Lexus service records and the other states records but when I titled it, my state wrote it as except based on its age.

If I remember correctly, Nav & Mark Levinson became options in 2001.

Yep, and that's the thing, it had 114K on it in 2008. The Lexus records stop at 64K or so, then nothing but new tires on the Carfax and two replaced tires. I'm betting the maintenance was neglected based on the fact they swapped out the AHC. I'm also betting that wasn't the only real issue since he's asking so little for such a clean LOOKING car. Oh well, if it is a good deal it'll be gone by the time I get there next week.

There are many threads on AHC here, several in the recent pages of posts. Do your research. But to offer some input, a system that is in bad shape is usually bouncy (due to worn pressure globes), or firm (due to high neutral pressures). You need to shift between all comfort modes to determine that they are functioning properly. Sometimes these systems can be brought back to live with the correct maintenance, but sometimes they are too far gone.

Start here: Definitive list of AHC maintenance items

When was the last time the AHC fluid in the system was changed?

Never! On either vehicle. Turns out the one with "159K" on it has swapped the suspension over to coils. The owner of the Gold LX here in PR dropped the price to $8,500 due to me showing and telling him I was going to go for the other one. While that was a nice gesture... after shipping the truck to Florida we're talking almost $3,000 extra. In his defense the black LX needs new tires so we can say it's $2K extra. I told him if we can make the deal happen this week and he'll take $7,800 I'll do it. He then said okay but he'll be keeping the Tundra wheels. I'd be okay with that but his factory wheels need tires also! So that actually would cost me more than $8,500.

I drove the truck a little hard yesterday, parked it and went to check on it today, no leaks or drops of anything on the ground (unlike my LS430). So I'm not thinking the truck is all that bad. But I do feel like I felt a little vibration at times on the highway. It's a 2001 though, I really don't think I should be expecting a brand new car.

Where are you coming back to in the states?

No meant where....as in which state?

Nice. You have access to some big cities nearby that should produce some good used cruisers. I bought ours in Florida. Keep checking Craigslist and you hopefully will find some sweet deal.
