Got my 35w kit today. For those who installed without harness, quick question.

I've read through the instructions but not totally getting it. factory 9006 plug attaches to ballast, ballast attaches to HID, HID goes into housing. Correct?

If so, what is the rubber grommet and the extra male to female section for that's attached to the HID bulb? Do I just cut them out and remove the rubber grommet?

Which kit did you order and how much was it and where did you order it from? Do the Toyota wires get cut?

9006 OEM plug goes into ballast
Ballast goes to HID Bulb and then you put the bulb in the housing.

I didn't have any extra wires or anything to cut except making the harness. If its "Plug n play" then you shouldn't have to cut or modify anything.

Have you installed them? Are they starting up? I know a few people have stated the OEM harness provides enough power to ignite the ballasts but I'm not 100% sure on that. Who make the kit? and can you post a picture? Mine didn't have a rubber grommet, just a hard plastic casing over the bulbs when I got them. In which part of it is still on incase they stop working I can put the case over them and send them back.

Really?

No LC wires get cut. You just plug the factory 9006 socket into the ballast and use a relay to draw power from the battery. I wouldn't draw power from the LC harness even with a 35W kit. I prefer to keep everything away from the LC electronics and just draw from battery into a separate fuse box.

lol, that was to make the harness. I stated " If its "Plug n play" then you shouldn't have to cut or modify anything", I had to make a harness, so I HAD to cut wires. If its plug n play he shouldn't be cutting anything. I had to cut the HID wiring to reroute the wiring into the ballast/battery. With the harness you shouldn't need to cut anything.

Don't cut the wires!!!

Thanks Trunk Monkey, that's what I wanted to know (cutting the adapter harness). I know you don't need to cut the factory harness wires. I got the kit from DDM but my included instructions weren't anything like the pdf on the ddm site. The pdf from the site is much clearer.

The pdf is much better. The other instructions are junk.

Which kit did you order? 35w w 5000k bulbs
How much was it? 29.95
Where did you order it from? Ddm tuning

Found it.

still waiting on my 55w with harness order.... will let you know if it works but I'm sure glad I got the harness now!!

Back when I ordered mine they showed up in a couple days. Sounds like MUD is flooding them with too many orders and now it's way delayed! :D

Ordered mind on a Tuesday and got here on a Friday. Installed the next day.

I'm loving them more and more!

Just wanted to confirm that anyone was able to get the DDM tuning 35w kit to work without a wiring harness? I bought the 35w DDM kit and after installing it, couldn't get it to work. Triple checked all connections without success.

Guess I should have gotten the harness and the 55w after all!

Will this harness do the trick?

I had the same problem, but I think some others had good luck. I made a similar inquiry earlier in the thread. I think wagonee5 said that they worked for him.

ON the positive side, my hella 4000s are awesome with the HID upgrade. Offroad lighting is no longer a problem. Its definitely not plug in play, since you have to drill through light housing and widen the bulb housing. That said, its an easy and very effective upgrade.

Drill the housing:

Widen reflector to fit the bulb:

Flatten the round female electrical fitting to accept a male spade fitting. Connect positive 12V lead. Add to housing grommet:

Results are about 1000% more light. Definitely not steet legal, but they are killer off road:

^ I didn't have to drill my housing for the bulb, it was tight but it fit. I also just cut the bulb wire and spliced it into the hella wiring harness. Wanted to have the option to go back to halogen.

that is sick! I think I'm going to go HID's in my fog lamps rather than screwing with the OEM light housing

Thanks for posting this, I really like the idea and might copy it myself.

Quick question, looks like the Hella takes H1 bulbs correct? Did you go with the 35W or 55W H1 HID conversion kit?
