2000UZJ's big HID thread - what, where and how (2 Viewers)

Love mine - been installed for 2 weeks now, cut off is just fine, never been flashed by oncoming traffic. Have the 55W and bought the ebay brackets found earlier in this thread, screwed them into the body behind the corner lights....

Also, to get the lights all the same color, I bought these...
2 White Clear Dome LED Light Bulbs 12256 2821 2827 558 : eBay Motors (item 180490812106 end time May-06-10 13:53:44 PDT)
The are the same color as HID and I used them for the small marker lights between the headlights and the yellow blinker bulb, I also used them on my Hella 4000FF "city lights" that are just marker lights that come on when your parking lights are on.

So now the only lights that aren't HID "White" in color are the high beams and Hella's (might switch those to HID) and the ARB bumper lights, which are a True Bright Yellow Fog.

Here are the yellow H3 bulbs I use for the ARB - longevity is decent as I don't run them all the time, overall look and visibility is good - best of all the price is right

Those Nokya's look nice. Wonder if I can find them in a store as I don't have a ebay.

anyone know if an additional relay harness is required for a fog light install.

btw thanks fish2live i will be ordering those white marker bulbs for my dads cruiser, those look like they will really complete the package.

Need more info. Is this in adition to the factory fog lights? are you wiring the fogs in an ARB? If the latter then no. Just use the factory fog wiring.

Anybody else had issues with radio reception after installing?

I have an aftermarket Pioneer unit and when I turn on the headlights, my radio reception gets really bad. The HD stations drop to analogue and are really weak. If I turn off the headlights, reception is instantly restored.

Guessing it's because I mounted the ballasts behind the corner light on the fender and the antenna is also on the fender.

Any loops in the wires will do this. If the wires are long loop them and zip tie in a figure 8 shape.

My CB gets a lot of interference with the HIDs on. Not the aftermarket Pioneer radio though.

Loops in the wires powering the HIDs? I have a Slee auxiliary harness powering mine and the excess length is ziptied in a bundle, not a loop. I may have to play with that arrangement sometime

My buddy just put a DDM Tuning HID kit in his factory fogs on his Tundra. If they work in the Tundra, I'm sure they work in the LC just fine. Just get the correct bulb type, and away you go!

How are these kits (35w) listed in this thread holding up? The last set I bought off of EBAY the last couple weeks have "fluttery" light output. The seller sent me another kit thinking it was defective, but it does the same thing. I took the kit from my car and put in the TLC and it works fine so I know it's not the truck/relay wiring or anything like that. Also, I'm confused as to wether the kit from this thread was plug and play. On the website it looks like it is, but why are some of you guys cutting up the harnesses and stuff? How many of you guys are using these in plastic lensed headlights and how are they holding up? Thanks in advance.

I have had one good set. Almost a year, even used as high beams for a while. But my second set had both ballasts fail within 2 weeks, but they were replaced for free and still going strong(2 months).

Mine are still working but I dont drive my 100 a lot so...

I went ahead and ordered a set. Hopefully these will work out better. I'll report back in a couple weeks.

EDIT: 35w 5000k HID kit from DDM installed and working great. Nice even white color after a 15 minute burn-in.

Took about 10 days to receive after ordering.

I know a bunch of us installed HID kits a few months ago. Any failures? Mine are OK, but the 100 series splits time with the MS miata as the weekend warrior?

Few months with mine, no issues. I do keep the normal bulbs in the glove box waiting for failure.
