Also are the sales numbers for 01, 02 per year or is that combined? If per year than that changes the ratio.

01/1998-8/1999: 35010-60611-84: 1 available in the US

08/1999-8/2000: 35010-60840-84: 14 available in the US

08/2000-8/2002: 35010-6A020-84: 24 available in the US

This piece of data concerns me slightly. Being that my rig was built 09/2000 puts me RIGHT at the part number changeover...makes me think that I either just missed biting the bullet, or got one of the first builds that utilized the bad batch of parts. My fear obviously is the latter, but we will have to wait and see what kind of data comes in re: build date vs failure time.

It puts you into the 2001 model year!

Even though the carfax refers to it as a 2000? This whole model year vs calendar year bs just confuses simpletons like me.

Might take a look at the carfax report again, actually...I'm 99.9% sure it's a 2000 but I will be stoked if it turns out I paid for a 2000 and got a 2001. I'm never that lucky though. Ever.

Always go by your month and year as your build date.

Those folks whom are stuck right in the middle of the cross-over or part supersession month, the split off is around the 12th-15th of the month of engineering changes in parts.

At least, that's been my experience.

so how would Fuzz determine his year? IIRC the door plate only has month/year. If 8 overlaps then wouldn't 9 be in the next MY?

FYI, carfax is showing it as a 2000. Still an 09/2000 build date, so who knows. Nary a transmission problem so far with nearly 140k on the clock, but failures have happened later than that in the mileage range.

Going to find some nice hardwood to knock on.

Kirk, it's a combined number. Sales dropped off year over year pretty dramatically after 99. It is interesting that Toyota stocks '01-'02 trannies at a higher rate than the '00. We see fewer raw numbers of '02 tranny failures on MUD, but given the estimated lower ownership, the failure rates are not statistically different (1.68% for '01 v 1.27% for '02).

how do the rivets look on the vin? :flipoff2:

wondering if you could give beno/onur a call and have him run the VIN in a Toyota computer to see what it says.

I'm out of town slumming it on the in-laws iPad at the moment, don't have the LC with me or I'd go check the rivets for you. :D

Onur, will running my vin through mr. T's system provide more info as to the specific build date, down to the day? If so, I will shoot you an email.

No. It will only give me a month and year. Nothing more, nothing less. There are plenty of 9/XX build dates that do not transfer to the next model year.

I figured as much. Based on what little research I did, the model year changeover can vary by several months depending on the manufacturer, and even specific models can vary within a particular manufacturers lineup.

As long as my trans holds up, I couldn't care less what year it is. :)

2000 LC. 03/2000 manufacture date. 126,000 miles. 3rd owner. I have the maintenance records back to 2006 with no mention of trans issues, so I think it is (was) original. No towing. The fluid had been drained and filled every 7500 miles for the last 30k. PO did good maintenance.

Transmission just died at 126k. No warning. Did not leave me completely stranded, as it was driveable at highway speeds.

2000 LX470, 164K miles, second owner, just got it about a month ago, not known tranny issues and rig has been serviced at dealership its all life. Tranny works and shifts perfectly besides the typical clunk.
