Just a couple of comments, sure they may get a few gouges, scrapes etc. but they won't spark which is a huge consideration in the SouthWest, it's not a beauty contest, might even make me look Official and lastly being an old geezer that paid cash for my retirement present to myself I am in no hurry to beat it to impress anyone or let my ego override my common sense and wallet. My choices were based on my needs, disposable income and realization I am not King of the Hammers. Others may choose differently and that's fine with me, I'll watch and hold their beer. Cheers
Makes sense.

Different terrain, different needs.

I'm not a rock crawler either, and don't pretend to be one. Here in Vermont any old class 4 (unmaintained) road could have nasty rocks, some more than others. Same with many of the class 6 roads and trails I've done in New Hampshire. I was talking to a guy last week that travels all over teaching offroad classes and he commented on how this area has so much rock, unlike any ofher place he's been. We have rocks, boulders and ledges all over the place, especially on the more technical trails. You never know when you'll come across that kind of terrain.

I went all aluminum, because I really don't need to go anyplace where it wouldn't protect the underside enough. Let's face it LC's are not Ultra 4 buggies.

Agreed, but I also see "I'm not going to do any rOcK cRaWLing" all the time on this board and people dont realize there is a big range between Ultra 4 rock bouncing and even mild trails. I trashed my stock skids by dragging them on a tree root I didn't see. If you live in a land-locked state without access public land, you are more likely to travel to areas where you dont know the terrain and can easily be surprised by what you encounter.

The terrain differences are huge to be sure and will be a consideration on ones choices. Thankfully we all have more choices as the 200 has come of age.

Oh shoot, I meant 3-16” in that original post, not 1/4” sorry for that! The thinner engine skid (for example) would be 1/8”

Wish Bud or Slee would have a 4th of July sale to make this decision easier. :)

If you find yourself in Austin, feel free to come look at the Slee skids I installed on my LC if you think that will help make your decision.

Has anyone with Slee skids really put them through their paces and taken some big hits? Particularly on the front as the connection to the radiator support seems like something that has been mentioned as a potential area of concern in other threads. I plan on hitting Windrock, Rausch Creek, Uwharrie, and hopefully making it out west at some point so want to make sure it will survive some bigger hits without issue.

I am between BB, Slee and Victory. Slee is in the lead for having them in stock and coming powder coated. Victory is coated and cheap but hard to find real info on them.

I have beat and tested them in ways that most would not use them. Including deliberate pressure testing with jacking the truck up from several points. There’s a reason the back side of them looks the way it does and that they are made of 3/16 HSLA. The bolts in the rad support are more for integration with the ARB and Slee front bumper splash shields.

I have. Slee held up a lot better than my Kaymar bumper. Highly recommend

This exact same trail system is what made me move from budbuilt aluminum to budbuilt stainless steel!! They are hell for stout.

Heh I thought that sounded familiar. I remember reading about it.

Anyone have the Ironman skids installed? I'm curious how much clearance there is between the diff bolts and the bracket it includes. The video I saw for the Tundra shows the bracket is low enough that a 1" diff drop would work, but I can't find any videos of an install on a 200 (even on the Ironman channel). Support at Ironman was completely unhelpful.

Remember this experience. I have the Ironman front bumper. Still have no recovery points up front. Showed out of stock when I ordered. Later… simply unavailable.
Snorkel template was also fairly useless, and I have the snorkel top taped where it meets the tube because it whistles without. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yeah I have their rear springs. The springs are fine, but the paint quality is not like the Tough Dog springs I had. The TD springs barely scratched the pain when I dragged a spring compressor on them whereas the paint just cracked off the Ironman when I tapped the end of one fairly lightly with a hammer to nudge it into place. I have no doubt their skid plate is nowhere near as strong as Budbuilt, but given my diff drop I have somewhat limited options and I don't really need 200# of armor for my use case so for the money it might be an option. Plus given my DD kit I'm pretty confident whatever I install will require some "field modification" to fit correctly.

I'm still mulling over what I want to do, but I posted this in another thread and have made some updates and it was suggested I should post this info here as it might be helpful to others trying to make the same decision I am. Note that prices are as published today and include discounts, but many of those discounts seem to expire at the end of Feb.

@linuxgod you might want to add that our skid plates are now made from:
  • High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) has nearly twice the strength and impact resistance of general purpose mild steel (A1011 and A36). 30-36ksi Yield strength vs 50ksi yield strength minimum.
That means about 30-40% increase in strength for the same thickness.

200 skids have always been HSLA 🤓
