Define reasonable. Weight? Cost?

I don’t love the oil filter door design but my Asfir skid has one. It’s aluminum so it’s light weight and was fairly inexpensive compared to other options.
Cost it never goes off road and the weight doesn’t matter, it’s not going to reduce my MPG….hahaha

FYI, discount code MUDDING5 still works on ASFIR.

That's nice! do they make it with an oil change door? Or do you need to remove it every time?
Yes, there are removable panels for the oil filter and the drain. More info here:

My slee skid set actually improved my mileage by a small but repeatable amount.

In all seriousness, considering the sliders (TKO) and skid plates (Victory 4x4), my front hidden winch plate (trail tailor), the Apex 12k winch, and my front runner roof rack, my mileage did not improve. My skids stay in place and are easy for oil changes but they are heavy and super stout.

I concur. My mileage increased by 1.5 - 2 MPG at highway speed after installing the Slee skids, most of which promptly disappeared when I added the 285/65R18 BFG KO2s.
No issue with oil changes. It is easier than with the stock skids. The only thing I don't like is having to pull them off for Trans, T-case and front diff fluid change. In my dotage, I am getting too old to scramble around underneath a truck manhandling such things. Bummer.

Ha! Let’s see someone disprove this! 🤣
In no way was it a smart investment to save fuel, but I noticed it and at least a couple others on the board did too when I’ve mentioned it in the past.

Just a quirky side effect of some of these systems.

I did eventually move to the much lighter E&E skid system, but it’s hard to track whether the mileage increase persisted because I changed so much other stuff back to stock around the same time.

Asfir is a great option in that case. I don’t know that there’s anything cheaper or much lighter… maybe Ironman if you get them on sale or Kaon if you’re already ordering stuff from them from Australia?

Or steal a road sign, bend it, and drill mounting holes haha :hillbilly:

That EE skid system is a work of art.

The example picture is an early pre production run that are on the designer's LX install. They may not have the removable panels, but the new ones do. One for the filter and one for the drain plug.

Here's a thread with all you would want to know about them. There are also much better pictures there, but I figured I'd share mine rather than someone else's.

Victory has a 15% off sale right now so its $1153(before tax) for their full set including the gas tank skid

+1 for the budbuilt goods!
Love seeing the support and recommendations for these as mine arrive tomorrow.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to paint them with? I got the front skid TRD Grey, and the rest primed for paint. This was due to time it would take for them to get to me, as well as cost mainly.

I know they will get scraped etc, that’s the point, but to increase durability, is there any specific paint or rhinoliner or something that has been found to help the skids out?

My skids are aluminum and unpainted, but given my experience with my rear bumper I'd recommend POR15. You'll have to brush on 2 coats of the stuff, then use their top coat, but it'll hold up well and it's easy to touch up when you scrape them.

You could alternately use rattle cans of Rustoleum and a matte top coat. The nice thing about skids is that aside from the front portion you should never see them unless you roll your truck.

Por15 is expensive but damn that stuff is tough.

Rattle canned ours🤣 we used a rust inhibiting version I can’t recall which. I would suggest ensuring you have clean threads on your truck and apply a good anti sieze to the hardware

Nah. I did my entire rear bumper for about $100, including using their special etcher. The POR15 cans are expensive but you could do 2 coats on all the skids with the smallest size can
