down to the wire...

it's road worthy! Purrs like a kitten. Got most of the essentials working here the list for tomorrow:

- Wire Reverse Lights
- Wire Oil pressure gauge
- Get new Batteries(?): I am getting good charge off the alternator, but it still has a rough time starting especially after sitting for a while and using the glow plugs. There could be a draw? What’s the best way to check for this? It could be the batteries though because after I charged them it still BARELY started...
- My brake lights seem to be wired backwards. With the headlights on, the tail lights are BRIGHT and only get slightly brighter on the brakes. Without the headlights on, brake lights work but are dull, like the driving lights should be. So i am getting driving lights when I hit the brakes and brake lights when i turn on the headlights.....something’s up.....
- Boy would i love a radio.....we'll see...

Oh one last thing, Where is the temp sensor for water temp gauge on a 1HZ? The 2H has two water temp sensors, one for the glow plug relay (two prong) and a second for the temp gauge. Does the 1HZ has two as well? I can only find one, a two prong, which i can't wire the gauge to. Is there another sensor for the gauge somewhere??

G'day VTCruiser,

You'll find the 1HZ also has 2 coolant temp sensors. One for the glowplugs, which is screwed into the alloy oil cooler housing near the oil filter (usually green coloured connector housing). The temp gauge sensor is located into the cylinder head, under the inlet manifold runner where it meets the head on No. 5 cylinder.

Hope this helps you on your side of the pond. (Also first post here for me!)

Greg.

Welcome!
Your screenname is also a Cruiser we Mercans are quite envious of.
Do post pictures of it somewhere. Under-the-bonnet snaps especially. :D
Cheers!

Congrats on the swap that should be one bad ass 60 now. We need to setup a wheelin trip with malphrus, for when you get down here. My roomates 55 is planned to done by Sept 15 because that is when one of the trails near clemson opens. It is called the horsepature and there is also Burells ford. So one like a sunday after one of the football games we could head up cause the trials are only like an hour away. Also we have to get the big trip planned for Tellico cause I am about to die to go.

Good luck getting down here

You have been working hard all summer spend some of that money on a nice set of Super Swamper LTB's you can get 31's for about 100 each maybe less, then you would have lots of grip. Richard has the same problem as you though he is a baldy:).........

G'day HJ60,

LOL... yes screen name is a Cruiser, well sort of :D

My truck is actually a live axle 100 series, a HZJ105 (105 = live axle or RFS, 100 = IFS). I now call it a HDJ105. ;) I removed the 1HZ engine, and fitted a 1HD-FT motor from a TD 80 or HDJ80.

So I have a turbo diesel motor in a live axle chassis, a combination which Toyota never offered! Is there a particular place on this forum for members to post their rig pics?

Regards, Greg.

if you have them hosted, you can post them right here (just put img brackets around it, "[ img ]" & "[ /img ]")

or you can host one up in the readers' rides section of the webpage...

Sweet! Greg, how did you manage to fit the intercooler plumbing off the 80?

Dave

Dave,

The intercooler, turbo and associated plumbing I already had fitted to the 1HZ prior to the conversion. It's a common aftermarket kit from Safari / APS. See:-
http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/safari/turbo/1hz_100/100_turbo.html

So I have the 1HD-FT, along with the split pulse manifold, twin entry Garrett turbo and 3" exhaust. I also changed the 5 speed gearbox from the R151F to the heavier H151F

Greg.

What kind of modifications did you need to do to your transfer to fit the H151? Do the R151 (1HZ version) and the H151 have the same length?

Dave

hey VT, hows it run?

Hey man does it run good? what kind of milage are you getting? is it alot quicker tham the old 2H? were you able to hook up temp and oil pressure & RPMs?
give us an update when you can
