yeah, that's what it seems like pretty crazy... I checked my lines nothing is clogged no lines are pinched including the oil drain.

What's odd is no oil or coolant leaks or maybe I just stopped it in time

Sounds like you got a little bit lucky and it failed at low speed, not 100k RPM +

It's hard to beat the OEM filters, and that's not said through unchecked OEM OCD, but from personal experience, and reading several different testing reports
X2, have run several, OEM are the best and terrain tamer a close second.
 
Get a genuine air filter and see what the restriction is like.
Same. I have both the OEM washable and paper filters seems very restrictive also maxed out the filter minder. It’s possible this turbo just wants more air. Could have been turbo over speed condition because of the crack in the housing. More testing needs to be done once I have the turbo back from repairs.

Looks like I’m not the only one with these wix filter minders showing maxed out clogged filters on stock air filter configuration.

turbo came back from warranty. That was actually pretty quick for having to send it half way around the world.

If anyone is wondering RMA process was flawless.

I paid shipping 1-way.

I also opted to upgrade the turbine wheel to the 10 blade STS 55

Let’s see if I notice faster spool.

That was fast. Do you have a snorkel? Are you still concerned about potential air flow issues with the new turbo, or do you think it was a manufacturer defect?
 
I'm running this turbo, i have a plastic safari snorkel and 4" trundles stainless steel intake with 4 inch pod filter no issues with draw but low compressor speed off the mark. Takes a little to spool up. Once spooled she humms.

I have snorkel but the snorkel opens up larger than 3 inches.

3 inches from the turbo inlet. Factory air box is 3.25 inches then to snorkle 3.5 inches. So the pipe path gets larger. I'm sure the restriction is on the filter.

As per the filter minder and trying 3 different filters. (Also tested filter minder with vacuum pump and it is within spec. )

Waiting on an aftermarket filter to try. Its backordered. I'm trying the aFE

Why no billet wheel and no sts ad-ons?
