Build 1997 FZJ80 to HDJ80 1HD-FTE + H152F

I know jack squat about TrekBox (or any other company’s drawers) but maybe loosen all the fasteners that hold this thing together a little bit and let it “relax”. Then re tighten. Maybe even go for a drive before you tighten everything back.

Around 3250 miles on the truck. I am getting around 380 miles before the gas light comes on and that is about 19 gallons worth of fuel based upon my experience. My tank (that I am filling from at the farm - not the vehicle) does not have a meter so that’s best guess. The last tank I filled up before getting home ended up around 19.5 mpg (and 19 gallons to refill from the gas light) so seems about right. The truck runs like a top with no issues. I’ll drive it daily until my new 200 shows up in a couple of weeks.

John,

I'm curious what kind of milage you are getting. I'm driving an 80 with an FT and just did 9000 miles last month across the US and back averaging 22.1 mpg -> (8960 miles and 406 gallons).

@ofer bruhis about 3 posts up. Around 20 mpg. We didn’t exactly build it for mileage. You running Gturbo turbo/pump/injectors or stock?

Hey John,

Running GTurbo with PDI intercooler and 3" stainless exhaust from PPD. I get 20mpg when driving 70-80 mph. Our trip was off freeways so slower driving and some off road. At some point I was getting 25.5 driving 55 mph in rural South Dakota and Iowa. I got 19.5 driving the Mojave in low range for about 200 miles. We have the stock 25 gallons tank, because I'm carrying also 28 gallons of water, and try to keep the weight down as a 2 person rig.

BTW, really nice rig you have. What is the future for it? Are you planning an adventure vehicle for long travel, or just weekends or daily driver? We have 5 Landcruisers of which 4 are diesel and it's hard to choose which one to drive... :)

I’ll do a better mileage check after I’ve broken it in some more.

No real plans for the cruiser. I just wanted to build something fun. I keep a few cruisers around as well.

Oh well. I was going to get a set for my 200 series but have decided to try Dobinson. Simple and quiet. Not real sure what I want to do for this truck though. Maybe a Goose Gear setup. What an enormous disappointment.

Sorry you are having issues. Just to be clear, your system should be and can be silent. It sounds to me like perhaps the tab on the fridge slide got bent out a bit when you were adjusting them and is making contact with the metal fridge slide. Either way, give me a ring and we will sort it out.

@TrekboxX just so we are clear I did give you a ring and we exchanged a few texts. You said you were on vacation I said to plz reach out when you return. I never heard back from you and am not really the type of guy to continue to hound someone about a product issue. The suggestion that I caused the problem is wrong because it was making the same noise before I ever tried adjusting per your YouTube instructions. At this point, I’m done messing with it.

I didn't say you caused it- maybe we did at the shop before it left, IDK. It doesn't really matter, I am just trying to be helpful. Whatever the issue is I guarantee it has a simple solution. But it sounds like you aren't interested in solving it. I'm sorry for not following up after returning from Alaska- I honestly forgot, and since the only remnant of our conversation were some texts ending in "Maybe we can catch up when you get back" it just fell through the cracks.

Even if it takes new components or me getting on a plane to fix it, I am happy to. I have had a great track record of happy customers, and I'd like it to continue. But I won't hound you about it either, and I do ask that you give me the opportunity to fix it before deciding to blast me or the product on the internet.
 
@TrekboxX not blasting you. It’s not like a started a new thread entitled “Trekboxx sucks.” I know that a lot of people like these things and have had good luck with them. That’s the reason I wanted to try it. My luck was not as good as others.

I have no idea why it’s making the noise. It’s insanely frustrating but I’m kind of over it. I decided to just park this one and drive something else until I am ready to deal with it again.

I doubt you would understand my logic @Wrencher93. I am probably a little overly critical on the cargo box but that is only because of how the truck turned out overall. It’s fantastic. I actually think the @TrekboxX unit is nice. I see Mud threads all the time where people just bash and bash Mud vendors. It’s not that important to me and that is why I’m not really bent out of shape.

I’m sure it will work itself out. If not I will invite @TrekboxX out and we will figure out what’s going on with the box. But in the interim the weather is nice so I am driving this red FJ45 a lot.
