Already regretting it, but she's up for grabs...

EDIT:

Putting a hold on the truck's sale at this time. A tremendous amount of interest in the truck, and thanks to all for the great conversation and the multitude of offers to purchase.

Seemingly, my own interest has been reignited as I brought the truck back home yesterday after a hiatus during some projects here at the house. Something about a calm 65° day with an all-windows-open drive over the mountain and a couple dirt road offshoots seems to stir you up. Not sure where this takes me from here, but I'm going to take it off the market while I figure that out. End result may just be I'm going to go drive the damn thing and secure its slot in the garage stall.

See ya out there...

This truck had been sitting outside for the last year or so and the hood has started to develop some oxidation. Not to the point of paint peeling, but it definitely needed some love. I have never attempted to buff or polish a car before but after watching some YouTube videos and reading some threads I thought I would give it a try. What’s the worst that could happen?

I purchased a Griot’s Garage DA polisher from Amazon after reading some reviews. It wasn’t cheap but it wasn’t the most expensive. I think I paid around $150 for the polisher along with some various pads to try out. I bought some Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound and decided to take my new toy for a spin.

The hood definitely had a strong haze before I started this project. It wasn’t so bad I felt like I needed to get it painted, but it certainly made me notice it every time I walked past the truck.

The entire hood took maybe an hour or so. I took my time and worked my way around the hood in small portions. The end result was much better than I hoped and the picture doesn’t do it justice.

I am not sure why it took me so long to buy one of these. After doing the hood, I walked around the truck and took out some scratches here and there. Overall it’s a huge improvement.
Great stuff. Have you measured your paint? If you got a little bit of meat on it, dry & wet sand it and compound it again. You will have it looking like glass.

Sad day, but happy all the same. Truck has moved on to a new home, and a home that I am excited to see it go to. Fellow Mudder with other Cruisers reached out and we struck a deal. A bit emotional seeing it load up on the enclosed trailer to head to its new home, but it was time to free up the garage stall.

My intro to the 80 from @jomelo was with our first child, and it heads north with us now a family of two daughters and (finally) some estrogen offset with our son. I know the girls are missing it already, but I’m sure we’ll be replacing it with something fun soon enough. I’ll bug the new keeper and see if he’ll pick the thread up.

Until we meet again…
