So much for keeping this thread on track...

There's benefits to both setups. It depends on what you need the truck to do. In my case, I want the truck to wheel better and Toyota has a severe lack of aftermarket support for what I'm looking to do. Combining that with the repairs that I need to do, it was cheaper for me to replace the 1fz with a 5.3. There's no comparison in the longevity of the 1fz to the 5.3 but performance wise, the 5.3 is a better power plant and I just got a 2" lift in the front of my truck for free!

No need to be bashing each other over stupid crap. Don't turn this into a Ford vs Chevy board...

So what happened to the original poster? Is this thing on the road? Pics? Problems and solutions encountered along the way? Thanx

op is a busy dude. it is currently on the road with the 1fz still in it. or it was a week ago. at this stage of the game its about getting all the stuff together so it can happen in a fell swoop. this is still pretty much his daily.

but i can assure you that this will happen. and it will be pretty cool. he is pretty detail oriented so it may take a while.

if i were doing it... well... it would look like crap. :hillbilly:

this thread is worthless without... a male nurse.

Dude.... Dont be jealous....

so wait.... you are saying that somehow the 275 ft/lbs of torque the 1FZ makes is somehow better than the 335 ft/lbs a typical stock 5.3l makes?

you can only polish the 1FZ turd so much....

LMFAO!!!!!! :D Now thats funny...

Aaron is correct... I was going to try to hurry up and get this swap done over my break from school, but AA is 6-7 weeks out on the adapter and that isnt suffice time for me. I didnt think the adapters were a special order deal. Now here is the real question.... WHY IN THE HELL isnt someone here in the states building this adapter? AA said they have a contract with Mark's to sell their items in Australia and vise versa, thats why they are not making their own adapter. I challange someone else to built this adapter.... SO the motor swap looks like its yet waiting til summer for completion...

A 22 percent increase in torque is small?

Not to mention a significant decrease in drivetrain weight, a big increase in useable power band, the ease of location replacement parts at a lower cost, no head gasket to blow... Shall I continue?

Please tell me one thing that would justify keeping a worn out 1fz and not replacing it with a v8. Some of us have the skills. You clearly don't.

It's a small gain against the cost of doing the conversion. It might be cheaper in the states, it certainly isn't here. 10 thousand at least for a conversion using a later 5.7 versus 4 thousand for an SC kit.

As for a 1fz being worn out well maybe you should have bought a decent truck to begin with - or maybe you lack the skills to sort the wheat from the chaff.:D And as for it being a turd, well you obviously haven't experienced one that is in good condition.

I can agree that a later model chev with all the go-fast bits is an awesome upgrade. But dropping in a crappy old 5.3... well you just need to admit you didn't make the best performance/cost effective decision. Or you can continue living in denial, and be over taken by a super charged 1fz that isn't worn out:popcorn:

I feel your pain. I ordered my adapter about a month ago. It's supposed to come in on the stocking order this week so I might have it early next week. It's the main reason I had not started tearing my cruiser down until last night. AA said they could make a special order but the additional shipping fees was nutz.

When I want to go wheeling, I drive this:

faa5291f.jpg

You can see the 40ft toy hauler parked in the street that it is transported to the trails in.

the cruiser is a play toy and daily driver. Nothing more. they were all dog slow from day one. I appreciate your brand loyalty but in the wheeling world, we run the combination of parts that work the best. 80s are close, they just need a little more mojo. That old forklift 1FZ should have been left in the forklifts. It has no business powering a highway vehicle.

oh, and that jeep? it has a ford 351w efi motor and a full manual valve bodied C6.

Now run along:princess:. The guys who know how to do an engine swap are talking engine swaps in here.

OP - I am sorry your thread got jacked.

This is who has the adapter for the np203 to lc 19 spline split-case.

Jerry Nichols

I did not use the AA adapter and shaft for the front of the 203,. I used a 4l65 all wheel drive Denali trans and the factory adapter on the trans fits the 203 doubler with out the factory adapter that comes with the 203. I hope that is not confusing, I will put a few pic of what I'm speaking of. The holes on the 203 do not line up with the 4l65 adapter, but you can drill and tap new holes and this will allow you to clock the T-case up or down to clear the front drive-shaft clearance problems that other's have run into.
Now for the vss that you need, it has to be in front of the 203 box for it to work with the least amount of problems and to do it AA makes a clamp on vss reluctor ring # [716074]. I used the vss sensor off of a np143 all wheel drive T-case and drilled and taped the trans adapter and set the gap at .0010ths it should be the brass blade on your feeler's gauge.
I hope this helps and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to pm me or call.

thanks
lee

I will take a V8 GM or V8 Toyota over any SC 1FZ

FWIW I have owned a SC 1FZ also a TBIV8-60 and TPIV8-40

Now on with the 5.3 UPGRADE in to the 80:clap:

Its funny you mention that... I had a guy over checking out some parts I have that has a 97 FZJ80 w/ 35's, 4:88's and a TRD SC and he said he still isnt happy with the performance and should have done a v8 swap. More reason for me to install the 5.3L...

On te flip side its a LOT easier for the unskilled to bolt on a SC then a conversion. More HP but it still sounds like a 6cly:hillbilly:

Not for me. I've been out of town and I'm still shy on cash for all the parts. Hopefully should have everything in the next 3 weeks or so.

I have everything minus the adapter.. Hopefully soon I will place my order for the adapter, but it really pisses me off that it cost 1500... Thats pretty damn close to an Atlas.. I wish I had a adapter so I could build one similar and sell it for half the cost and put Marks out of the market. IMHO 1500 is rediculous regardless of the vehicle, minus a 2 month wait for it to come over on a boat... Sorry for the rant..

I spoke with RockJock yesterday about buying his old motor. He said he's still waiting on some parts and looks like he won't do the swap until summer.

Dude, I agree. I wanted to do part time solution in my conversion and because of the price of the adaptor, part time kit, and labor for install of kit I went with a 62 case converted to manual shift. Saved almost $800.

I kind of wonder sometimes if it would be easier to do a solid axle swap in a 100 series. The LX470 is one of the best looking SUVs ever too... But I'd rather swap in a v8 than super charge a sixer.

It's very easy to do:

1. Drop cruiser off at Slee's
2. Write check
3. Drive home
