Intercooler install

let me be the first to say that i have a very vague idea of how to install the intercooler in this rig. i have never installed one before and i want to try it on my own rig before i do a customers.
i contacted Bell Intercoolers in Texas (thanks for the lead on the other thread) and Gerhard was great help. we designed the unit to drop .05 psi from the turbo to the throttle body. it is supposed to drop the temp of the intake air from 72C to 30C, WOW!!
i tried to make the intercooler fit properly between the grill plastic and the rad. the front support will be taken out or modified and the lower box support will have a notch cut into it, the next one i order will be 1" shorter in height as this one is just a bit tight.
i found a web site that has all the rubber elbows a guy could ever need and they also turn and reduce to enlarge as needed. this is high end stuff.
anyway, here are a couple pics of what i think will work. if anyone has a different suggestion short of a different cooler feel free to post it up.
cheers

Good to know you can order a custom intercooler .. you need to know the amount of CFM to your engine and flow of your turbo .. ?

If Wayne has not broken the law why the secret? This forum is for the promotion of Toyota Landcruisers. Why would we keep secrets from each other?

Because Wayne is running a business, and if he broadcasted out how he is managing this, then he'd quite possibly run himself out of business.

Looks good wayne!! Inspiration to get off my butt and get the intercooler in the 61.

It's a different style then I thought. I just assumed that the inlet and outlet would be on different ends of the cooler. Looks like it should work well. Are you going to run dual boosts gauges just for a test. I would bew interested in the lost pre and post cooler.

I removed my center hood latch support but kept the latch. To help with the bumps I added hood pins. They have worked very well.

keep the pics coming!

That rig is really cool.

Sweet... Intercooler looks great. What won't this rig have? ;)

Hey Wayne
Me again also wondering on the Wabasco set up.Price range. Also wondering if you think i could squeeze this under the hood of a turbo'd 3B.Mving back to Yellowknife for the winter and i will most definitely need something to that effect since i will most be living without any power source on a houseboat.I have delt with Pro heat and other Wabasco on a lot of the equipement that i have run.Was planning on buying a generator to plug her in before trying to attempt a start up.I really like the idea of the self contained system.
If even possible what would i be looking at for installation hours.
Cheers
Happy thanksgiving
For more info on the Webasto heaters check out their website www.webasto.com

Wayne,

it is looking pretty good. Does yours have the A/C or is this a no A/C unit. I think I will wait until your done and then try to put this on some of my 70's :D

Thanks Wayne,

Cheers,

Michael

Sorry to pull this tread out of the gutter, but Wayne....what was the name of te place where you got the custom elbows?

Craig

PS
Are you worried about blocking any air intake with your intercooler?

I've got my Webasto in my turbo-ed 3B. The trick is to move the passenger side battery over to the drivers side and put them both together...then you have lots of room. I also recomend Optimas due to the small size.

Here are a couple of pictures;

As for install time, it is really basic, but time consuming. Mount it (usually the challenging part). Tee off your fuel line. 12 Volts for the pump. Run it inbetween the coolant line leaving the front of the head where it goes back to the heater core (this forces the coolant to run through your core and back into
the block insuring that you get a warm block and warm air when you start it).

It took me about 4-5 hours.

HTH,
Craig.

un-real. Great work Wayne.
