We had the intercooler and it’s plumbing ceramic coated. We also made a hard mount for this pipe.

We also decided to put a little throttle cable management on the pipe.

Big bad chicken compressor being installed in the Cruiser.

So I hired a new guy recently with a few decades of experience on Cruisers. He has been out of it for the last five years but is over the corporate things. So he came to work with us! I said you can tig weld SS right? Build some diffs? For sure he said! He is a friend of mine before this too. So I gave him the custom exhaust and diffs on this Cruiser for his first jobs. He is doing excellent! 😎🤌

Thanks for the detailed thread. It was a pleasure to read. Had no idea this perfect rig was in my back yard. I'll have to keep an eye out for it now. Congrats @ohsix on an incredible truck!

@jeremy j this one usually stays in Colorado. I have a maroon 80 and silver 200 that I drive in Dripping Springs. I'm just south of DSMS on the west side of town.

Too bad. I would have loved to check it out. I'll keep an eye out for your other rigs though. We're over near DS Elementary.

3” SS in house built exhaust.

Ceramic coated intercooler.

Still working on it….

Beautiful build you have underway. A quick PSA the ARB brushless compressor in confined spaces can quickly get the body of the compressor up 370 degrees. I have over 10 hours of testing this compressor for the superdudy compressor kits we manufacture.

For that reason we only mount the brushless compressor outside of the vehicle with "special" airline and a 2.5 gallon air tank to reduce the exhaust temp.

I would advise you do a few 10 minute cycles with its current location to see if the location is suitable.

Not impressed with the wiring on these headlights but we fixed that up good.

IMG_1191.webp

The yellow you see in the headlights is just a reflection.

Just about done with the turbo, intercooler and engine bay. Just waiting on a few parts to finish it off.

Couple more of the headlights. These are from Freedom Outfitters iirc.

Couple more of the air box. It uses a 200-series v8 filter. This is our first air box build for a petroleum engine but we have been using these 200 filters and building air boxes like this for awhile. We are just waiting on latches and a piece of pipe or two to finish it off. Iirc it is 4” into the fender on this one and 3.25” from box to turbo.

Here is our diesel air box if you don’t follow our diesel builds.

We don’t really do “cookie cutter” builds, everything seems to end up custom fit and custom made! Hey that’s kind of always been my attitude and persona with Cruisers, every Cruiser is different just like everyone’s individual desires and needs with a Cruiser are different. So they are all”one-offs!”!

😋

Cheers

Like I said we don’t do a lot or much of cookie cutter builds. That’s not to say we won’t fit the kit in your Cruiser it’s just that most builds for us involve customization to make it, well I don’t know how to say it other than 100%.

IMG_1218.webp

We are having to relocate the cruise control assembly slightly due to air box size and room available here.

IMG_1219.webp

If you follow our builds you probably also realize I post a lot of pictures during the build and mock up phases. That means those pictures don’t show our finalized work just what is going on in that moment. Think of it as “live” vs posting about a build at the end, IE only once finished.

No worries, we will put it under heavy load and temp test it.

Your temp numbers seem odd to me though, 375* will start fires. Melt carpet or plastic too. ARB doesn’t want to be responsible for that!! Water boils at what, 225*? 375* is also going to give you a 3rd degree burn in what 1-2 seconds? Boiling water will do it at 225*, I know not the same but still. I am going to be real surprised it it gets 375* airing up 315’s. My single motor ARB certainly doesn’t even if it does gets hot.

We will temp check with a laser under x4 tire load and post results.

One last picture and post for now.

I will review the @Cruisers and Co kit and product when 💯 done and tested but so far…….

The intercooler fits real well in the front end. Normally the diesel front mount kits from Australia require fairly heavy mods on the turn signal housings to clear the tubes into the core support. Not the case on this one.

Cheers

I much prefer the look of the OEM headlights, but they're terrible in function, in my opinion. I ordered the HID lights above from Freedom Outfitters in April of '23, but they were not shipped prior to @SNLC completing the initial build of this truck in June of '23.

Since ordering the Freedom Outfitters headlights, I've become aware of the JDM/Square headlight conversion with Holley Retrobrite headlights being done on 80-series cruisers. If I had this to do over, I would try the square/retrobrite conversion route as I find it more aesthetically pleasing and believe the light output and pattern to be far superior to the OEM Toyota headlights. I don't like the look of the Freedom Outfitters lights, but this is simply a case of form following function and dollars already spent.

I will add that I have another set of Freedom Outfitters headlights in my '97 80 series that were installed by @SNLC, and the light intensity and beam pattern rival any modern vehicle I have driven.

I can’t wait until we can see how this one (turbo 1FZ) rivals the 1HDFTE in your other 80!!

I look forward to your review and will 100% appreciate any feedback given!

Amazing build, thank you for posting and sharing this, a lot of great info and processes, keep it up,

Five 315’s, aired up from 0 to 35psi. We are not seeing temps above 175* and that is the extreme end of our temps.

If you are seeing 375* off the compressor I would suggest taking a close look at what may be causing that kind of temps.

Cheers
