Unfortunately I have to part with Greta (an appropriate name for this steadfast beefy cruiser), since my other FJ40 project has gone way over budget and I am getting daily earloads from the wife on why do we need 3 Land Cruisers!

Greta is what I would call a unicorn, one of the rare FZJ80's with factory front and rear lockers, unadulterated, while still under 150k miles. It is precisely this reason why I jumped on buying her and planned on turning her into a dedicated trail rig. I am the third owner. She is a Southern California car, who according to the previous owner, saw only highway time except for some surf trips to Mexico. Being a SoCal cruiser, she has virtually no rust (some surface rust on the tow hitch and surface rust on a ding on the inside of the tailgate). The downside of all our sun down here is it is not exactly kind on dark-green paint. So at some point, I had planned on giving Greta a paint job as her clear coat has seen better days. She has a ding on her right rear quarter panel and fender, but I was planning on just popping it out and fixing the ding on the tailgate when I got her painted, as they are fairly minor. I was also going to replace the fender flare gaskets, as they have seen too much sun too. Other known issues are the AC does not work (i think she needs a new compressor, but have not tested it) and the black window trim on the driver's side windows between the window and the door is cracking.

In terms of upgrades, I just installed a brand new custom Baja rack ($1k) and Pioneer touchscreen stereo with backup camera. The previous owner got rid of the power seats in the front to gain more leg room (you get two more inches) and drop some weight, and put in non-leather FJ80 seats. Besides that, Greta is pretty much stock. Greta sits on nice BF Goodrich's with good tread. Since I have owned her, I have only run her on synthetic oil. In terms of maintenance, I have recently replaced a leaky valve cover, did an engine flush, replaced spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, and put in new front rotors and brakes.

I was driving Greta daily, and she drives exactly like she should. I am sad to see her go. I am asking $8,000. Feel free to contact me for more pictures or questions. Greta is located in San Diego, CA. Thanks for looking! Paul

Did you take the rack off? Or did they take off the roof rack? Nice looking truck - sorry your goodwill got taken advantage of.

The reality is IHMud is a tough cheap group when it comes to resell. As for a unicorn I dont believe it qualifies.

I dont hate on flippers because the market will pay what it is worth and the cheap guys will continue to whine. In the end money talks and BS whines.

Ouch!! Very true though...

You're missing the point. We here on Mud because we love the rigs. Well I might be cheap--I apparently left plenty of money on the table, and did so because I thought I was selling my rig to someone who was super excited about it

I hear ya, and don't really car so much that they flipped it--rather it is the line they gave me that was dishonest. I, like everyone here, dig these rigs. I wanted it to go to a good home and dropped the price for the guy based on the line he gave me about his plans for the rig (that obviously didn't involve flipping). Long story short, I was trying to do a solid for someone a thought was a fellow enthusiast, since so many people here have done the same for me.

I know exactly what you mean. Of course we can't really hate on someone for flipping. Capitalism makes the economy go. But I can't quantify how much the people on this board have helped me and my endeavors. Sometimes you just want to pay it forward.

Hell, if you are ever in Atlanta, I'll buy you a beer

Sorry but you are selling a vehicle. If you want friends and others to be nice and fair join a country club.

I find it tedious and a bit insulting when I read a classified here with a bunch of used car sales bull#*#* designed to fetch lofty profits from a seller who knows next to nothing about the rig's history. There are plenty of other online forums for hard sales. Just because I'd rather not see it here doesn't mean I'm cheap.

That is true, yet I'll still try to explain as the buyer in this situation. This forum is great for helping each other out so we can spend more time on the trail, and less time in the garage. Not so great when its used to pine over personal regret.

At time of purchase the AC was totally non-functional, there was a throttle issue, it wasn't smogged and no lift kit was installed: the seller let it go for close to what he thought it was worth, period. Price was only dropped $500 IN NEGOTIATION, no b.s. story or charity. Just two young dudes super excited to have found a rare truck.

Purchase was done 50/50 with a buddy, we added our cash together in front of the seller and talked openly about which one of us was going to take the title in name. Nothing was hidden and our plans were NOT set for the rig nor expressed to the seller. We saw it on Craigslist, knew it was worth it, ran over there right after work and bought it. The seller had 4 Cruisers at his house and needed to sell one (40, 80, 100, 200 series).

Thousands have been invested into the vehicle since purchase, including a new A/C electrical controller from the Toyota dealership and extensive A/C work, OME 2" Lift installed, basic storage drawer/carpet kit installed, Smogged (not done by seller) & misc touchup and repairs. Seller could have done these repairs and improvements prior to sale, plus offered the vehicle with a valid CA smog cert, and asked a higher price. His choice to not spend the time and money on it, and to list it at the price listed at, and to leave $500 on the table in negotiations. In this case it doesn't make any sense at all to blame others for personal regret.

Whatever, I disagree with your assessment, but am glad you guys will make out. I had a different understanding and wish you the best with selling it.
