Hi guys, just picked up an absolutely immaculate 1992 HZJ77. It's been owned by and older guy for the last 18 years or so. Only 230,000kms, and 5spd.
An absolute gem. Here are a couple of photos
A few shots of the interior. Definitely super clean, but I have a few of minor changes I want to make:
1. New Sony XAV-AX1000 headunit (super nice matte finish that suits the interior of these without making it look out of place.
2. One Stone Armrests (will have to drill new holes to space it out for the plush door cards in these).
3. OEM canvas seat covers
4. OEM floor mats (I'm hoping the VDJ76 model mats will fit without hassle)
4. New tinted windows, as I can't stand those awful purple hue tints!
Sony XAV-AX1000 headunit in. Fits the fascia perfectly and modernizes the cabin without being out of place, in my opinion.
New battery and a general inspection today. Came back absolutely flawlessly, and even the owner of the workshop said it was the cleanest 70 he's ever come across .
I'll take that!
One Stone Armrests installed. Just drilled a new hole to space out the bracket slightly, as they are designed for the VDJ models which don't have the plush trim on the door window sill.
So comfortable and make a world of difference to the driving experience!
New OEM seat covers fitted today. These are for the VDJ models, and required a bit of force to fit. Still not 100% sold on the fronts, as they cover the lumbar support adjustment button, but with some local knowledge I can still find it if I press hard enough.
Rear seems a perfect fit, so happy overall and will at least do their job: protect the seats.
OEM rubber floor mats installed. Again, made for the VDJ models, but fit like a glove
These things are so timeless.
A few things in the wind for the coming weeks...suspension overhaul (possibly a small lift) one of them.
Love getting into the seat. Always an experience and an adventure. Drove a 200 Series today and it had ZERO soul. Couldn't wait to get back in the 77!
Sitting in a cafe admiring the view....
Does anyone else stare at their own rig in awe?
We went for a cruise around Banks Peninsula today, which is near Christchurch - our home city.
The 77 performed flawlessly. Obviously around the hills she's pretty slow, but I've had enough 1HZ's now to not be overly bothered by it. At least the rest of the vehcile makes up for it: armrests, nice headunit, suspension seats, a/c etc.
Plus, the 5 speed can get it going pretty well...
Went over a dew bits and bobs today, just as a precaution. You could nearly eat a meal from the engine bay, it's that clean.
Another little getaway, this time to Gore Bay, about an hour and thirty north of Christchurch. Good times spent with good friends. My buddy also owns a 77, the white one pictured.
RAM mount addition to the cabin. No drilling required. Tidy, functional and out of the way.
Suspension overhaul today. Fitted a new EFS 2" kit (new leaf springs, shock absorbers, bushes, U bolts etc, plus a Superior Engineering steering dampener).
The ride is so much better! Planning on adding an ARB bar and some drawers or similar in the rear, so I got rated springs. Even still, it's driving much better than the 30 year old stock setup.
A few more photos of the new suspension setup....
285/75r16's fitted today. Mounted on some 16x8 Dynamic steel wheels.
You'll notice in the previous post I also installed some LED tail lights.
Might brighter!
