OK, I'm the only fool (as far as I know) to blow the low end bearings on an 81 in Canada (so far). Anyhow, she's in mint condition (body wise) and I'm willing to sell it whole for a rebuild or to part it out. I'm am keeping the rims (I have another set), roof rack, ladder, steering wheel (have a sotck one) and bull bar. Otherwise it's fair game.

Please contact me via this website or call me at home @ 1-888-848-6671, I'm in the Yukon. Freight to Vancouver and Edmonton is easy to organize and about $600 for the whole rig. I am negotiable.

cheers,

Greg

Wayne, I think you misread! I think he was saying $600 shipping for the whole rig from the Yukon to you!

What exactly does "blow the low end bearings" mean in this case?

Why did this happen?

sold.
let's set up shipping....
cheers

When I first read it, thats what I thought. Had to read it a few times.

the BEBs, the main reason most of us are changing them out...
from what i have heard, according to the boys in Oz once this happens it is better to drop in a different engine than try and fix the broken one......

I am sorry to hear about your loss.
It really sucks.

I wish I knew about this awhile ago. Recenely I have had to buy a starter and rebuild my turbo. Would of been nice to help you out and save some money.

Maybe I ought to buy an alternator, that seems to be next in line for me... :)

I can't afford the whole truck, but I am still wondering how much you want for the truck?

Is there any goodies on your truck that I might want for mine?

Cheers,
Nick

We have the same roof rack by the way. They are awesome.

$$$$????

Put up some prices of what you want to sell thats rule number 1.

This isn't a tech forum(classified section), if you want to talk about why it failed or what to do post up in the diesel section those questions.

If threads don't have prices the thread gets deleted.

Welcome to the board.

The cost...

I'd like to see about $7000 cdn for it, as the body is in mints shape and the interior is excellent too. Sorry about the confusion on the cost.

The low end bearings should be changed out evry 100,000kms or sooner. As for replacing the whole engine with a new one, point me the way and I'll buy one and put it in. As for now, this is a great deal for someone who knows diesel engines. I don't, they can get it quick (not waiting on the shipping lines) and not have to deal with an auction, customs etc.

cheers,

Greg

Seriously??

On every 1HDT engine??

And I thought they put the 1HZ in the Aussie 80 series just as a little snub to the Australians. Maybe not.

I am pretty sure it was just a bad batch of BEB.
Once they are changed they are good for life (from what I understand).

BTW: $7000 seems like a good price.

Best of luck.
Cheers,
Nick

Greg and I have a deal pending.

Cheers.

Gello Greg (and Mac)

There are a few parts I would be interested in (as spares).
I don't need anything, but I might pick up a few things.
If you end up parting it please let me know.

Cheers,
Nick

Hey Nick,

I'm planning on fixing it at this point. Seems too good to part but I'll know better once I get into it.

Thanks.

If it makes you feel better or less of a fool, I've got one better down here in Vancouver who AFAIK did change the Con rod bearings out and then went to a "Jiffy lube" type place for an oil change.. you know where this is going don't you, The guy picks a fram filter that looks like it should work, slaps it on and sends him on his way.. pumping all 9 liters of oil past the Oring and onto the highway until things start banging. I saw the inside of the motor, the conrods are blue from heat, every bearing, probably the turbo, and crank done.

For all you folks with early HDJ81s, Keep in mind that up to 92/08 mfg 81s DO NOT have oil lever lensors so check the oil level frequently, use the correct filter and if you must use a lube joint SUPPLY YOUR OWN FILTER.

Actually, I am leaning to the camp which thinks it is the HZ/HD-T bearing composition. Toyota uses a alum/tin bearing for these engines, while the aftermarket replacement ACL's use the more common copper/lead. There have been reports of factory replacement HZ/HD-T bearings (alum/tin) showing the same type of pitting. I recall a link from Willam-Jan that details Toyota going to a lower pollution standard with their engines, part of which meant changing some of the typical metals used inside the engine. This "may" have been the start of it. Anyway...

If I used replacement Toyota bearings for my HD-T, FT or turbo'd HZ then I would drop the pan and check them every 100,000kms.

If I used the replacement ACL bearings I would not be as inclined to check.

So the problem is confined to the main and conrod bearings? What's on the camshaft?
