home made by the looks of the splatter ...

Although it may be somewhat modified I did finally find a "data plate" that indicates it was manufactured by a company called
Hayman Reese which I assume is a down under company.

The 75 series sold in this era were almost universally for govt, construction, mining or agriculture.
Private use was probably 1%

"Splatter does not matter" .....If I ever open a welding shop that "motto" will be on the sign hanging over the door. :) On the subject of splatter, the only "splatter" is on the receiver portion of the hitch whereas the rest of the unit is as smooth as a babies butt and the welding looks very professional.

This is the old and new towbars that have been on my HZJ75
This old one was probably fitted new by TL Engineering who made the origianl steel tray that I scrapped in favour of the lighter aluminium tray.
While its not pretty, you cant knock the built in strength. I only got rid of it because it was too high for my trailer and I couldnt find anyone willing to modify it due to litigation concerns.
Boy ,did I have some fun getting that off.

My current one from Parkside Towbars, looks like the splatter gremlins have been here

Yes ,you could tie up the Queen Mary with it. I had my feet underneath when I was undoing the bolts and I knew if it dropped I would never walk again.
Oh,it really wasnt that bad ,but you know what I mean:D
Now what am I going to do with it,I might try and sell it ,otherwise its off to the scrap yard.

Stick it aside somewhere.....it is to nice for scrap.:)

I dont think many owners here have a bumper like yours and most people ditch the factory tub in favour of the tray which would render the bumper useless for climbing onto the back
Toyota have a towbar as an option ,but Im not sure it was available in your utes vintage.
Mine is a Parkside Towbars job.

This is a factory towbar for the current 7* series,(I think its the same as Zoltans)it doesnt have the centre plate that bolts to the frame, yet it still has the same load rating:confused:.

"Most people ditch the factory tub" ..... if this is the case does that mean that the salvage yards are full of good used factory tubs?

That would be a good scenario but , the "ditching" of the tubs is on the piece of paper when buy a utes brand new and ticking the option boxes.Seems about 10% of the early hj75s people ordered tubs with the hzj 79s seems about 1% order tubs now with vdj 79s 0% order tubs.
They look mint but are not as practical as a tray, don't forget these are mainly "commercial work utes" so more tray space the better.

No ,they werent really here in the 1st place. And the factory tubs that did make it here are all worn out and rusted.
An elderly owner who bought one with a factory tub expressed his disgust to me when he put a pack of 220 bricks in the rear and couldnt close the tailgate because it warped.

I also think the 8'x6' alloy tray is much better, room for a tyre underneath, broad flat area for sleeping in,maintenance free.
I guess it depends on whether you want factory bling or usabilty.

Like Clint says 0% order them now, thats because they have been deleted them from the option list in favour of the Toyota tray.
This is the factory tray which can be colour matched to the cab

Ask Zoltan ,he has got one. I think you have to lift the tray another 20mm or so for it to fit if you are using the alloy rims.
Im getting ready to lift mine.Im sick of it in the back

That looks great........I assume you can go to your local Toyota dealer for parts in the event that it was damaged in a wreck?

Of course, but if you track down the local company that makes them, you can do it cheaper.

I have a Unicorn tray and the company sells all the hinges ,clips and other parts as well as accessories like under the tray tool boxs and water tanks.
Some of the local companies are beginning to make special camping trays with water tanks and electrical outlets as standard.

Thanks for the link.:) I have never been a big fan of the "flat" trays however those with fold up sides are kinda cool and unlike most full size trucks here in the States you don't have to have a step ladder to get something out of the back.:)

Even though I have yet to see a "70 Series" here in the U.K. I did see this little jewel.:) Yes I realize its not a Cruiser however it would look good parked in my garage.:D
