Found this thread while trying to search for aswers for my issue. I'll just add to this one instead of starting another.

Last night I took the 60 through the drive through for some supper. While waiting I was fiddling with things and showing my son how stuff works. I turned off the head lights and turned them back on right away. All my dash lights did not come back on. I was a bit perplexed and so while we waited in line I turned the dash light dial back and forth thinking maybe I bumped it somehow, then found and pulled the fuse. The truck died which made my son a little nervous so I replaced the fuse and started the truck. We got our food and came home. Later in the evening I went back out to check to see if the dash lights still weren't working. They came on as soon as I turned on the lights. Something I remembered was earlier in the evening the fuse panel area felt a little warm while I was messing with the fuses. I wouldn't say hot, but warm. I dont know if that's normal or not. Anything I should look into after all this. I don't t want to lose my truck to fire because of some bad wiring. There was some various accessories wired up and some old dead wires still up in the dash when I bought it. I removed everything I could and disconnected the rest until I could remove the gauge cluster to get to everything. I do think that my gauge bezel has been replaced at some point because it is the later style with more warning lights. My '81 Cruiser, I've been told, shouldn't have the 4x4 light or one of the others. The 4x4 light does not come on because there isn't anything behind the lense.
