I am starting flight school in November and unfortunately have made the decision to sell this beauty to cover some expenses.

I purchased her from the 2nd owner who had her for apparently thirty years. This 40 was his daily driver while he lived in a tiny mountain town in the northeast of Napa Valley CA. Occasionally making a few road trips to San Diego. I haven't had a chance to carfax to confirm, but they think they purchased it with 13k miles and enjoyed her ever since. They claim the seat covers have always been in the truck and as far as they know everything is completely original except at some point they resprayed the hood....and it definitely looks that way to me. Also has some cool old school coil -over shocks, but everything else is there. Tools, jack, handles, etc....this truck is a time capsule!! And yes, they are BFG 9.50 33 muds lol! ( if you know... you know) like I said.... time capsule.

I purchased her as an investment to enjoy and I have been using her daily and commuting to work. I have another 83 Bj40 and it's not even close to how great these late FJs run down the highway if that's even a concern.

As you can see from the pics, she's in great original condition. Not sure how many 83's are around with AC and PS that are rust free and unrestored, but this truck is a true gem.

Here are a bunch of pics, but please reach out if you are serious and need anything specific or have questions. I'm sure I will update things, or ad more pics..... but this is to get things started.

Sure, if we were talking about identical mint condition, but in this case you have the same car restored, and one with rust, funky pin striping, the wrong wheels and tires and while a nice driver, is in no way mint OG condition.

The cruiser mania of years ago is past, and as boomers die prices for classic cars are dropping. The kids don't want grandpa's muscle car or Landcruiser. If I wanted the best price for something I would sell yesterday, it's not going to get better tomorrow. Maybe in 10 years but I doubt it.
^^^^ This !!

Let me pick on the cars visible issues a little more. Rust, not a lot for a Landcuriser but a lot for a California car. The wrong wheels and antique by the owners admission tires. Wear on the paint on drivers door sil and in rear cargo area. Drivers door panel deformed and about to fall off. Stains and sun fading on seat belts on jump seats. Sunvisors deformed, new OEM are available. Aftermarket rear view mirror, New OEM are available.

If the seller wanted to spend a few dollars he could source and install the correct wheels and tires. He could buy new OEM door panels, they are still available , He could detail the engine bay and paint the air cleaner. Even those changes are going to be $3000-5000 depending on the price for the correct wheels.

It is NOT mint OG. There are before pictures in the BringaTrailer auction for the restored one, it is not far from the condition of this car.

If someone was going to restore this car, it will probably take a year to get it done. What is your time and money worth ?

The other thing is, nobody loves a flipper that is trying to get TRIPLE the price he paid for the car in a year doing virtually no work. He even admits he has not detailed the car.

On that note…we should cut our loses now and sell asap. I kinda agree unless you have a real gem or bucket load of cash. Thats usually NOT the case
I’ve decided …I love it, I’ll drive it even maintain it, and when the time comes that I’ve got to sell it…I’m going to have to deal with the consequences of those choices…. I may not like it though

IMO these are toys and should not be considered investments. 🤷‍♂️

For your asking price, get it on BAT. Mud folks dont usually get that high. Market will tell you where you are on price. GLWS.

I don't know about you but I'm planning dying owning my BJ44. If I become homeless I could live in it, but that's unlikely.

Not everything is about money. Some things are a labor of love, actually the best things.

101% @sedonut … one of the most stirring member signatures on the MUD forum goes to @77mustard40

“ My wife says the 40 will save me $ on burial costs in the end, just have to dig a bigger hole!”

I’m with you unless I can no longer drive, this alternative plan isn’t all that crazy

Thereve been a ton of trucks that started on Mud that got a reality check, negatively, when they went to BaT.

The last low mileage 83 went for 10-15k less than posted on mud and everyone swore up and down how great it would do on BAT.

Plane and simple the market is not what it was 🤷‍♂️

👍

Congratulations to you and buyer

Sold or taken off the market ?

Anyone that liked this truck for the color and late model style, there is a similar 40 that's been for sale locally for a while. Currently at $38,500. Quite a bit more patina, but looks to be really rust free. 45k original miles. Apple Valley, CA.

No affiliation, just sharing the similar truck since this one sold.

I'm very surprised that 82 hasn't been snatched up. I came across that fb page a while back. Looks like they dropped the price a little. If she runs good you can't go wrong. 82's are rare and if you want a 40 series daily driver you don't need to change a thing. Hope she gets to a good home.
